Re: Redemption - This Mortal Coil (Out now!)

I've been listening to Redemption nonstop for the past two weeks.  Literally, it's been all I've listened to.  I've been going through some heartbreak and nobody can capture a feeling with lyrics like Nic van Dyk.  "Memory" and "Life in One Day" are two tracks getting the most spins.  "Memory" is sick.  I've never seen a song so perfectly capture the regret of letting a loved one get away.  I've also had the new disc in heavy rotation.  "Focus" and "Perfect" and such beautiful tunes.  Thank you, Nic van Dyk, for giving me something to comfort me when needed.  It hasn't been the first time, and I'm sure it won't be the last.

This Mortal Coil is still kicking ass. I like it better than both DT's and SX's new albums. :metal

I wish I hadn't pulled a Thiago though...

Is this the official Redemption thread?

anyway, I got Snowfall recently and really, really like it.  Where do I go next?  I've heard good things about The Origins of Ruin and This Mortal Coil.  Are they both similar to Snowfall?

It is now.

Snowfall is the cream of the crop IMO, but next I'd get Origins, then Mortal Coil then Fullness of Time.

what are the three best songs from Origins?  Got a $3 amazon mp3 credit recently.  Looking to get some songs from this album to check it out.

I agree.  Fall On You I like a bit better than Death of Faith and Reason.   But Snowfall is simply perfection.

Well he said 3. Fall On You would be 4th. The whole album is great, although Bleed Me Dry is my least favorite, and to be honest, removing it from the album would improve it.

This.

We won't hear anything this year, and probably not the first 6 months of 2013 either.  Probably even longer actually.

That's what I've heard as well.  Aside from working on the PP show, there's nothing on the near horizon for Redemption.

Damn that mouse.

Yeah, totally.  But every now and then a band surprises me by how quickly they get back into the studio.

And I definitely wouldn't mind if Redemption surprised me by how quickly they get back into the studio.

Just want to say that it is a crime against humanity that I forget to listen to Redemption as often as I should to be reminded of their awesomeness.

Setlist:

1. Threads
2. The Suffocating Silence
3. Dreams From The Pit
4. Parker's Eyes
5. Fall On You
6. Noonday Devil
7. Stronger Than Death
8. Black and White World
9. The Death of Faith and Reason
10. Walls

Added Saturday songs:
Nocturnal
Origins of Ruin

Would have liked to have seen Threads, Nocturnal, and The Suffocating Silence replaced since they were on the last DVD, but oh well, I think they got the right ones off of Snowfall.  Can't wait for my DVD now.

Is the last DVD any good?

For the new one, I'm kind of on the fence about it.  On one hand, as much as I love this band, Ray's live voice just tanks it for me.  On the other hand, it's not going to completely suck, and I want to support this band in any way I can.  In the end, I'll still get it.  But I'm going into it with sort of low expectations.

I think it´s a great dvd, audience is outstanding on it. The band as well, but if you can´t stand Ray´s deteriated voice, you probably shouldn´t buy it.

Last DVD was good, but not spectacular if you compare it to how amazing they are in studio. And you can tell it's not a big budget thing, but it still looks pretty good. Then again with the amount of bands that record stuff at the end of tours, it's gotta be tough on bands that go out and do these shoots on one offs.

Snowfall on Judgement Day is amazing. Seriously, I've been meaning to get into Redemption for a while and the tracks that I knew were pretty awesome, but listening to Snowfall for the first time as an album today blew me away in ways that few albums have ever done. I think I listened to the album three times today already. :metal :metal :metal

Jazz still cares, but otherwise you are right -- great comment. Too bad Metallica, whom I had the pleasure of seeing many times in the 80s, are a shadow of their former selves. Still, this kicks all kinds of ass.
I rip off all kinds of classical music in my band, Redemption (Ray Alder of Fates Warning is our vocalist). Check us out if you like. Shameless plug but then I've had a bit of wine tonight! :)
