I am really hummed that this album is not clicking with me.   It is prob at bottom right now.    Snowfall was such a masterpiece

Well, it's clicking so hard for me that I'm sure there is enough click for both of us.  :)

I guess this would be my ranking, but having TMC at #4 doesn't mean it's one of my least favorites, it's just that 1-3 are so damn good. 1 and 2 like to switch places also.

1. Snowfall On Judgment Day
2. The Origins Of Ruin
3. The Fullness Of Time
4. This Mortal Coil
5. Redemption

I still need to get This Mortal Coil!!! I NEED MONEY!!! ARGH!

Not sure what I'd rank, I'd probably put TMC second behind Snowfall.  Although I did listen to Ruin yesterday for the first time in a little while and good lord what a terrific album.

So I've been listening to TMC now for a couple weeks and I'm HOOKED! It didn't start out that way though. At first I was underwhelmed, but not disappointed...there's a difference. So I gave it a couple more spins and BAM! It hit me. For me it was the lyrics in combination with the music that made me realize that the mood of each particular song reflects the lyrics and made me feel what he was going through. I have such high regard for this album at this point that I rank it tied with Snowfall at #1. If Snowfall wasn't so strong musically, TMC would surely overtake it for the reasons stated.

TMC will be slugging it out with TFoT for the second spot, behind Snowfall of course.

What is impressive is that TMC seems to have won out compared to the 7 other albums that came in that order.

I've gotten through this album one time so far and I like what I'm hearing.  Some of my friends have complained about the production.  I guess I'm just not that picky, to me it sounds good.  There are certainly some mixing choices there that I might not have made myself, but I think these things are always subjective to some extent.

I have a question if Mr. van Dyk is still reading:  Is there a 7-string guitar in use here?

KNH -

Sorry I missed this earlier.    7 strings are used on No Tickets to the Funeral and Stronger than Death.

Hey Nick, yeah, I meant that your debut is the only album I haven't got, the rest are brilliant, and TMC is spending so much time in the cd player.  Also, the cover cd booklet was funny as hell.  You got the King Diamond facial expressions mastered well.  :lol

Glad you liked that!   All that cross-eyed stuff was giving me a headache.  I was wondering, while doing that, when he went from "okay, I'm going to look scary" to "okay, it's not enough to look scary, I have to look insane, and the best way to do that....is to cross my eyes!!!"

I was laughing for a week about those pictures!

Hah, I always wear my helmet. :p

I mean I gave TMC an 8.5/10, so it's not like I don't think they are all great.

I actually love The Origins of Ruin alot.  If I was to rank Redemption albums including TMC, I'd go...

Snowfall on Judgment Day: 9.5.
The Origins of Ruin: 9.0
This Mortal Coil: 8.5
The Fullness of Time: 8.0

I haven't listened enough to the first album to give an accurate ranking.

I know some don't like my Coil ranking but overall it's not tough to see why I love Redemption so much. Five albums in and my lowest ranking is an 8.5.

Between TMC and the new DT and Arch/Matheos, I am really hard pressed to pick a favorite album of the year.  I literally have no idea which one I will choose.

It still hasn't clicked with me, i like a few of the tracks(No Tickets, Focus, Dreams from the Pit) but i dont enjoy it as much as the previous albums(except the S/T). Not sure why, i just haven't had the urge to listen to it in a while. Maybe it will change with time.

1. Origins of Ruin
2. Fullness of Time
3. Snowfall
4. This Mortal Coil
5. Redemption

To expand upon my 3-sided coin idea, since we have heads and tails, I propose the new side be called tits.

I love the variety of musical ideas in TMC.  My album rankings:

1. This Mortal Coil
2. Origins of Ruin
3. Snowfall on Judgement Day
4. Fullness of Time
5. Redemption

Or get a 4-sided coin.  One side is "tits", the other side is "taints"!

I'm giving this album a proper spin right now. I listened to it before, but didn't get all the way through.

The production is interesting.. it provides an unique vibe. Still sounds so Redemption though, which is always a good thing :D

I will say this:  Listening to the previous albums THEN putting this one on made me realize how different the production on this album really is.  The one thing that stood out the most to me was the vocals seem to be pretty far back in the mix on TMC compared to the last two albums.
