Listening to "Giraffe" right now, great album. Even though, what always surprised me, how many songs overlap with The Shaming of the True. What's up with that?

I was also just reading the Wikipedia article on him; I never knew that he was going to have an audition with Genesis to be the replacement singer for Phil Collins, only to be found dead? :eek

The Shaming of the True is one of my favorite albums ever.  I've never heard the whole "rock star" storyline portrayed so well.  Kevin Gilbert was a master.  I wish he was still around today.

The Genesis thing is apparently true.  What an untimely and unfortunate loss!

I don't have Giraffe, but what I do have I'm very happy with.  It's a shame he's gone, I really would have liked to see what he would have came up with over the years.

Also, he dated Cheryl Crow and wrote a few of the songs on her breakout album.  A truely talented person.

the band he was in "The Tuesday Music Club" wrote almost entirely the entire "Tuesday Night Music Club" record actually.

"Giraffe" is just a compilation in fact.

Why a number of songs ended up on Shaming and Thud? because they are different versions. The guy could wrote dozens of equally amazing versions of the same song, multiple times.

Why some tunes ended up on multiple albums? because each of those versions were worth releasing. Imagemaker From Here To There both warranted being on Shaming. Although given the fact Kevin wasn't alive to okay the exact track listing on Shaming, who knows. But his estate did as faithful a job making that record as they could with a lot of his notes as a guide. Although from what I recall, a lot of his notes were not exactly crystal clear.

I've been suckered into a few of these kind of deals and the "unreleased demos and alternate mixes" junk is usually just that:  JUNK

I dig Kevin Gilbert, but this sounds like an overpriced money grab to be honest

yeah, "overpriced moneygrab" sounds about right, since the record has been out of print for many years, and I know people who have scowered the web  and monitored Ebay frequently trying to track a copy down, LOL.

Kevin's Estate sure needs the money of course, that's why they are of course charging to see all those unreleased videos and docs coming and setting up a Kickstarter for the released of these.

As some of you may already know, this fall, The Estate of Kevin Gilbert is releasing a limited, 34 track, 3 CD, 20th anniversary, deluxe edition, of Kevin’s solo album Thud.

We are wondering if there is enough interest to have 500 of the sets include a 2 disc, 180 gram, audiophile vinyl version of the original CD. This will be mastered from the original analogue tapes.

We hope to have the 3 CD set, which includes a 32 page, full color, hard bound book, sell for $30. The version including the vinyl will cost an extra $30, totaling $60. The CD set will be available separately for $30 but vinyl will ONLY be available as part of the entire $60 set.

Please respond here under this post (or on Kevin Gilbert's Official FaceBook page) and let us know if you would buy the edition including vinyl. We will only press vinyl if we get enough positive responses.

Best regards, Jon Rubin
Executor for the Estate of Kevin Gilbert

The book is awesome - as is the whole thing (musically and packaging-wise).  :tup

yeah, I agree. It's really pristine and thorough. I really hope and almost expect to see something similar occur finally for Shaming in the near future.

But nice video, I actually likely will make one showing it (and some other stuff) on my YouTube channel in the near future.

I've been wanting a copy of Shaming of the True for a long time.  What's the best way of getting it, without spending a couple of hundred dollars for it?
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

it seems all the reasonable/reasonably priced copies are out of stock on the usual sites including his own. Based on history, they will repress more copies within the next year or 2. But for now, I would recommend monitoring Ebay and Amazon Marketplace.

Some people may know Lorenzo from Italy who keeps a similar blog to mine, altprogcore.

Lorenzo has published some progressive rock books previously per links on his blog https://altprogcore.blogspot.com/

but they are all in Italian.

So Lorenzo wants to try and get an English version of his Kevin Gilbert book published and he just launched a Kickstarter for it.

So, some may be up for reading a published book about Kevin Gilbert, checkout out the Campaign:

Kevin Gilbert BOOK (English version)

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1241132547/translated-kevin-gilbert-book?ref=user_menu

Last year I've published Independently a book about Kevin Gilbert written in italian. Obviously some not italian Kevin fans have expressed their interest on this book, but I'm not a good translator so, since then, I've tried to find someone who did a proper job of translation. At last I've found the guy, but I can't afford the fee without being sure to sell at least a certain amount of copies. So, here I am on Kickstarter if you want to help me out to fund this project and want your English version of the book. I've set the final goal adding only the print and shipping costs, I am not interested in earning money from the book, but only in the translation.

With this book I've tried to give a chronological shape to Kevin's career collecting all the facts I've found in interviews and web resources, plus I have added my thoughts about his music and every album from his early days with NRG and Giraffe until his last masterpiece "The Shaming of the True" and the band Kaviar. A full discography with his collaborations and productions is also included.

Useful informations:

122 pages
Dimesions: 10,8cm x 17,48cm
Original cover artwork (back and front) by longtime Kevin Gilbert fan Lennart Fagerman
You can find the italian version here:

Shaming and the Giraffe albums are being repressed/reissued. They had gone out of print the last few years.

The "bring you never-before heard/viewed content" could be the Documentaries that were talked about a number of years ago but never were made/made-available.
