Guess the old thread died a way back.

But anyway, I was thrilled when they used Bullet With Butterfly Wings in the Dead Space 2 launch trailer. It fit so perfectly too :D

Yeah, that was awsome! Have you seen the full length trailer or just the TV version?

I know that the Smashing Pumpkins' 1st three albums are pretty highly regarded, but how good/bad is their post - Mellon Collie output?

Worth getting into?

VERY hit or miss. I don't like any of the albums, but certain songs (Stand Inside Your Love, Perfect, Crestfallen) are among my favorite SP tracks of all time.

actually, i prefer Adore and Machina (gasp!) to Mellon Collie. Machina II is pretty great, and Zeitgeist is pretty awesome for half of it if you ignore the mix, but just sucks horribly for the other half. i find SD horribly overrated, but because i didn't have any kind of nostalgic connection with it like i do for MCIS + onward. half is awesome, half i don't like (as opposed to half sucking like Zeitgeist).

Gossamer is king.

and please, please don't bother with the Teargarden by Kaleidoscope stuff. it will ruin your life.

Adore is actually my favorite SP album. I just love the quieter, electronic approach taken to it, and it has some of B0lly's most personal lyrics (all of his lyrics are extremely personal, but you know what I mean). Machina was OK, Machina II was pretty good, Zeitgest was most like Sheitgest, and I haven't heard any of the B0llster's new songs.

Their (his) b-sides are worth checking out, too. They have a ton.

This. I either like a song by them, or I find it highly irritating.

I'm still liking the new songs quite a bit. I had a thread dedicated to the release of it, but the songs have been so sparse that there was never enough discussion to keep it going.

The two newest songs are pretty awesome, but this project isn't going to be done until 2020 if Corgan doesn't get his fucking act together. 4 songs a year is absolutely ridiculous.

Billy is a bit of the nut these days, anyway. It's fitting he'd do something weird like that.

I'm honestly not interested enough to give any of the new songs a listen  :-\ My friend is a huge Pumpkinhead, like he's one of those guys that has every b-side, rarity, live recording, and solo album/track/b-side/rarity imaginable. He says it's all a pretty mixed bag.

Still, nothing could ever beat that run of Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie, and Adore  :heart

Definitely try out some of the new songs. They're free. My personal recommendations are A Song For a Son, Astral Planes, and Lightning Strikes.

my buddy, whom actually credits me for getting him into the pumpkins, is the same way. owns basically every rarity imaginable.

...i really have no interest in the new songs, as even he says theyre shit. i figured i'd eventually check it out once billy's done the entire 44 songs er something.

I like quite a lot of the new songs. Far better than Zeitgeist.

Also, who here loves Machina? Or Machina 2?

^ the label wouldn't let them release another double record after the lacklustre sales of Adore (as a followup to MCIS). BC wanted to, but the choice apparently wasn't his.

besides, we're apparently getting a double-disc Machina I & II in its originally intended tracklist as part of the remastering project :O

every Pumpkins albums of old is getting remastered and re-released, beginning with Gish, Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot at the end of this year (apparently). see https://smashingpumpkins.visibli.com/share/31066f - BC originally made the announcement via a video on the official SP Facebook.

Bump

Been in a Smashing Pumpkins kind of mood lately. Just listened to Siamese Dream and I'm not on Mellon Collie. I forgot how awesome they were. Siamese Dream is the best.

Sweet, both are fantastic albums. Check out Adore if you're at all interested. It's my favorite Pumpkins album.

Yeah Adore is cool. I haven't listen to anything from these guys in years though. I'll probably listen again at some point.

most of the core SP fanbase really dislikes Machina I but adores (lol) Machina II.

get your hands on the Machina I premaster and you may avoid the reason everyone hates it (the glossy production). the premaster has, by and large, exactly the same music ("Age of Innocence" is a lot better though), but is mixed in a much more MCIS-ish way, and it fits the album much better than the Zwan-style production they eventually went for in the end.
