It would appear from the recent FB posts that the album cover for Blackfield V has changed to something a bit more... nostalgic. I'm probably going to use the burning car cover for my files anyway, though.

Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

Really excited for this. I like Blackfield as much as PT so a new album is exciting.

From SW's Facebook page...

Quote
Blackfield V will be released on 18th November by Kscope, and sees a return to the full partnership that made the first two albums such firm favourites with fans. Written and recorded over a period of 18 months in both Israel and England, Blackfield V contains 13 linked songs that form a flowing 45 minute ocean themed song cycle. With Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen expertly handling vocals, guitars, and keyboards, Tomer Z from the Blackfield band on drums, and string arrangements performed by the London Session Orchestra, the album is a powerful journey through catchy melodies, lush arrangements, and stunning production. Legendary producer / engineer Alan Parsons produced three of the album’s key tracks.
Both musicians consider Blackfield V to be their best collaboration to date. The album will be released by Kscope as a Digipack CD with a 16 page booklet, CD/Blu Ray with high resolution audio, and double vinyl.

Now I'm looking forward to it even more.

Surprised that SW is back, didn't he say that he wants to concentrate on his solo career?

Anyway, nice that he's back and this gets me excited even more.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Amazingly, that statement was about 5 years ago. He's done 3 solo albums in that time (GFD, TRTRTS and HCE) and carved a name for himself as a solo artist (rather than as a member of PT).

Anyway, I'm excited to hear that it's a full collaboration again. And the album cover makes sense now we know it's an ocean-themed song cycle.

I was wondering why a 44 minute album was pressed on two records.

"Unfortunately the release of the new Blackfield album has been delayed, and Kscope have rescheduled it for 20th January. We apologise profusely for this, but it is due to circumstances beyond our control. Frustrating though it is, hopefully when you hear the album you will agree it was worth the wait! In the meantime we hope to bring you more audio and video preview material from the finished album soon."

It's almost stupid how good that sounds. On a YouTube clip. It blows the Raven production completely out of the water (not a slight to Raven, though I don't think it's SW's best mix, tbh). I won't preorder until I hear a full song or two, but I'm excited to get back to what made BFI&II great in the first place.

Eh I think it sounds fantastic - Parsons produced it too. Really like that analog sound and feel :P

Parsons is why I brought it up. The dry drums don't do it any favours. Blackfield V previews, on the other hand, have a full and polished-without-samples sound that makes Marco's recordings sound like a demo. It's nearly preposterous how much worse Marco's kit sounds in comparison.

Hang on hang on woah woah woah woah...10th FEBRUARY now?! It's never a good sign when they keep pushing back release dates. Things are obviously very very wrong with all of this behind the scenes.

new interview with Aviv Geffen.

some clips and a lot of details about Blackfield V, comparing it to the 1st album. "October" may end of being 1 of SW top 5 songs ever, etc.

I really like the song upon the first listen, my only complaint would be the lyrics but they aren't that bad.

Again, those videos are not available. But I did listen on Spotify. They're alright, Family Man certainly has room for growth. But they're not absolutely mindblowing.

Wow, really enjoying these new tracks from Blackfield. First time I'm digging them again since the days of Blackfield II. Great production from Alan Parsons and just a convincing return to the melancholy of the first album.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

For me it would be:

I
V
II
WtmDNA
IV

I still enjoy the bottom ones more than most people seem to, but I think it's because Blackfield has always been so close to my heart. While I think Aviv has always been the hero of the band, I also feel like him and SW work very well together and bring out the best in each other. :)

I've really gotten into Family Man now. I can't even pinpoint the exact moment it happened, but I love the song now, having been just meh about it when I first heard it. I definitely plan to get the album as soon as I can.
