Community (TV Series)
« on: January 07, 2011, 09:05:57 PM »
Does anyone else watch this incredible show? I just caught up with the whole series. I'm constantly floored at how great the writing and characters are. It's also shown me possibly the greatest 22 minutes of TV comedy in recent years. Highly highly recommended.

Probably my favorite show on TV right now. It nicely fills the niche Arrested Development left in terms of quirky meta-humor comedies.

Not that I care about award shows but the fact that "Modern Warfare" didn't get nominated for an Emmy is bullshit.

Alison Brie.
I wuv her  :heart
And the show is awesome.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Community is awesome.  Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase (still love the guy), the writing...love it all.

Oh, and Alison Brie.

EDIT:  I just realized why the writing is so awesome.  Starburns (Dino Stamatopoulos) has been a writer on some of my favorite sketch comedy shows:  The Ben Stiller Show, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Letterman, Conan, TV Funhouse, and MadTV; as well as creating Moral Orel

It runs neck and neck with Modern Family for my favorite comedy on TV. I'm actually about to go continue rewatching season 1 on DVD to fill the void left by season 2 being on Christmas break. Physical Education, Beginner Pottery, Contemporary American Poultry, and Modern Warfare are my standout episodes from the first season.

Best comedy on TV currently.

I'm rewatching Season 1 currently and it's amazing how much of an upturn in quality the show takes after/around the Halloween episode. Sure it was good before that, but it reached a new level of good afterwards.

Just gonna echo this for truth. Thr Halloween episode was where I went "Eh, whatever" to "Omigod, Thursday can't come fast enough!"

I loved this show since the very beginning. The "spanish rap" at the end of the second episode is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television. My son and I go around doing this rap all the time. We have the routine down pretty well, and will break into it in the most crazy of places. We've even gotten applause from people in places like the line at a movie theater, in restaurants, and last year at a Reds game.

So I've been re-watching some of the season 2 episodes, and I think it's stronger overall than the first season.  Even stronger than the second half of season 1.  The only episode that doesn't work that well for me is the Apollo 13 parody.

I think my favourite credits gag is the cartoon tunnel one, in S2E2.

Almost every TV show has season 1 as a weak point, so when season 1 is good, its a good bet to stick with it.

My wife and I love this show. My one complaint about the current season is that there seems to be too many episodes that are just "fuck reality... we're going to do something crazy" episodes. Like the claymation episode, the one with the giant fort, etc. Each of these episodes on their own are good, but I feel like there are have been very few episodes that involve realistic school/life stuff this season.

Well the expectations were so high after Season 1 they had to find ways to top it. I do hope they came back down to Earth at some point but I really don't mind those episodes since they haven't been too outlandish.

I really like the high concept stuff they've been doing.  They're tackling stuff way beyond your typical sitcom, and I love it.  But at the same time they're not afraid to include a plotline about a magical trampoline.

I almost seriously injured myself this morning, I was watching Contemporary American Poultry (probably my favorite episode from season 1) while exercising and just about lost it laughing when they cut to Troy interviewing for the fry cook job while dressed as a pharaoh :lol

One thing I loved was that I never heard about Community episodes beforehand, so I never knew what they were going to be about.  When the first freeze frame occurred in "Contemporary American Poultry", I shouted "YESSSSSSS!"

That's a bummer. Most of NBCs comedies are really good. It's a shame people don't seem to be watching.
