How long of a set is Thank You Scientist getting?
I want to say like a half hour. Would love to see them have a headliners timeslot though, I would have been okay with them for the rest of the night.

Cool. That's a bummer but I'll take what I can get. Love Periphery but the first TYS album really runs circles around everything they've done.

Listening to Juggernaut: Alpha, now.  Not bad, so far.  I have never heard a song from them before.  All I do know is that they do have some connections with DT.

Liking Heavy Heart.  Is it me, though, or does the vocalist sound somewhere in the veins of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington?  Not that's a bad thing.  Just an observation.

I can see that comparison, although Spencer is defienetely more rough I'd say.

Just pressed play, 'A Black Minute' is really damn cool. Something completely different, like a heavier The Dear Hunter or something. Much better than the tracks they've been releasing so far.

Yeah, both albums are great. The songs that didn't sound amazing on release sound great in context. Definitely a concept album that works as a whole.

Wow, wow, wow.

This stuff is such a leap forward, didn't expect that. Clear hinted at that, but it was way too uneven in style.

They're still that modern djent band with a slightly girly clean vox that's often autotuned. So what. The music speaks for itself and Spencer always matches the energy that the music around him demands, and sometimes it's the other way around. Somehow it's pretty cool to sound as clinically 'perfect' as you can. This is a band that uses cutting edge digital technology combined with insane technical and harmonical knowledge, and they're doing it better than ever on Juggernaut.  Adding to that, the low end is insane. It's a hyper compressed, colorful, banging record. It succeeds where Epicloud and Sky Blue fail. As much as I like Devin Townsend. This shit is catchy as hell, the songwriting is incredibly tight and inspired.

My pre-order arrived today, and it's glorious. Beautiful and quite scary artwork. The Juggerdoc was cool too.

Currently listening while reading the lyrics to try to get a grasp on what the story is.

In Periphery's defense, they've been talking about Juggernaut since like 2011/2012 at earliest. I remember before they released P2 that they said Juggernaut would be their next album, but they pushed it forward in favor of releasing P2 first.

Actually i first put mine out on Bandcamp in 2012 !

But I was only joking anyway :)  :hat

Actually my new one is Juggernaut 2 - which implies that there is a part 1 which came before ;)

Yup this. Icarus Lives was originally supposed to be a part of Juggernaut. Its original title was Juggernaut Icarus Lives.

It's too bad Juggernaut Inertia or Füf didn't make it on the Juggernaut album as originally planned; those were my favorite Bulb tunes.

These albums are fucking delights. Absolutely incredible musicianship, and the lyrics are wonderful. Hell Below, lyrics and music as well, is B.R.U.T.A.L. I don't know which album I like better yet. It's all so good. If I wanted to make very preliminary rankings of the songs, I'd say:

1. Omega (Soft guitar break through the end is the highlight of the album.)
2. Rainbow Gravity
3. The Bad Thing
4. The Scourge
5. Stranger Things
6. 22 Faces
7. Alpha
8. Psychosphere
9. Priestess
10. A Black Minute
11. Hell Below
12. Heavy Heart
13. Four Lights
14. Reprise
15. Graveless
16. MK Ultra
17. The Event

Alright, so I've listened to all of Juggernaut several times now. Thoughts:

I was kinda nervous prior to this album's release, mostly because most of the singles they released didn't impress me much. Thankfully, the album turned out to be awesome regardless. Counting both Alpha and Juggernaut as a single record (as they should be), I'd probably put it about on par with Periphery, with Periphery II still easily being the band's release thus far.

As far as comparing Alpha to Omega, Omega pretty much kicks Alpha's ass into high orbit. Alpha has some good songs, but overall it's a bit underwhelming. Omega, on the other hand, is solid from start to finish, and the final two songs are by far the best tracks from both discs.

One thing that bothers me a bit is that Alpha and Omega really didn't need to be separate releases. They don't stand all that well on their own, and hell, they only total up to just under 81 minutes. If the band just trimmed off about 3 minutes (which wouldn't have been that hard to do) they easily could have fit the whole thing on a single disc. But that's just a nitpick, really. Great album.

Dem rankings:

Omega
Stranger Things

Rainbow Gravity
A Black Minute
Alpha

Priestess
Psychosphere
Graveless
The Bad Thing
Hell Below

The Scourge
Heavy Heart
22 Faces
Four Lights
MK Ultra
The Event

Reprise

No one from the band has said. Spencer wants all the fans to form their own interpretation of what the story is before they maybe explain it sometime in the future.

I have listened quite a lot to this album, and have formed an idea of some things, but there's a lot I don't understand yet.

Really excellent album! Alpha is my favourite, but there's some superb stuff on Omega too.

My favourite songs are probably the two title tracks. The Alpha chorus is insanely catchy and I love when it reprises towards the end of Omega.

These albums are so heavy!  :eek

The chorus of Alpha has stucked to my head all the time, it really is insanely catchy! I have played that track too much in the past week.

I'm not a fan of screaming in Periphery's music so I like more clean vocal songs, like Erised, The Summer Jam and Alpha. Periphery is anyway quite a weird band for me cause I love many songs which usually are not so liked songs among the other fans.
