Don't worry about it and move on? I gave them a try and while I could appreciate what they did, I just didn't connect with them. It happens sometimes. Maybe they'll click later, maybe they won't, but I find that if a band really doesn't work with me the first time, I can't force myself to like them by listening to more just to like them. It has to come naturally.
The bones of beasts and the bones of kings become dust in the wake of the hymn.
Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall, no more than a breath on the wind.

Maybe you're right. Other people are obviously getting something from them that I'm not, though, and that kind of bugs me.

I have occasionally forced myself to like a band so, who knows.  :millahhhh

I really didn't like them at first, but there were some moments here and there which were awesome and which kept me coming back. Now I think they're awesome.

Pretty much this.

I think Frames just bumped itself into my top 5 albums of all time.

Hmm, I've decided that The Frame is one of my favorite songs. Still not sure about the rest, but it's growing on me.

Only Twin is their best song. So fucking haunting.
Probably my second favorite on that album and at least in my top 10 if not top 5, but they have so goddamn many amazing songs that I can't say it's my favorite.

Frames and Effloresce are both far superior to the other two still amazing albums but really. These guys have only a few meh songs amongst a discography composed mostly of amazing songs. Really do miss them and wish they were still putting out music.

I still don't think they made a single song less than great, including B-sides. Too bad they broke up.

Frames is amazing indeed. Remains my favorite album after all these years. :)

Still bummed over them breaking up. Maybe if they just replaced Mark Heron, they would still be around.

Is this Biffy Clyro thing any good? I'm turned off by the fact that "Biffy Clyro" may actually be the worst band name I've ever heard, but I could get over it if the music was good.

Mark Heron was the drummer, right?

Biffy Clyro are pretty good. It's more arena rock than anything similar to Oceansize, but they have some pretty catchy tunes.

Mark was the drummer yeah.

So today it has been exactly three years since the band announced they had broken up. I think we should honor the best band out there by listening to their music today.

I love you Oceansize.  :heart

bump.

just preordered the Red colored Frames Vinyl (limited to 100 copies) per Insideout Europe's store. Also The Perfect Element and Remedy Lane and Spock's Beard's V. Not cheap, but I fig wtf, like the maudlin of the Well vinyls, these likely will only be released and printed once, so why not?

I also pre-ordered the red one, and grabbed The Perfect Element as well. Not cheap, but two amazing albums, and Frames especially since it's been my favorite album for several years. Never thought I would own it on vinyl, so I'm almost misty eyed now.  :heart

Also, I swear I hear Pain of Salvation's Idioglossia in Oceansize's Saturday Morning Breakfast Show.

I'm new to this forum and I found many of my favourite bands in the A-Z index of band thread, many of them I didn't expect to find in a Dream Theater Forum (Thrice, Unexpect to name a few)  :) I've read this old post who noone has replied to and I must quote it! It's probably a minor reason for which I doesn't like too much Idioglossia, during a certain riff I immediately think at the Effloresce album  :lol (I discovered Oceansize first)

Oceansize was my favourite band 1 or 2 year ago, now it's only one of my favourites, maybe I've listened to them too much and some choruses or epic parts don't hit me like the first times. I haven't listened to them for months and if I think at Oceansize now I think at Trail Of Fire, Savant and Only Twin, three masterpieces one after the other that very few bands has got in their discography.
Sometimes they imitate too much other bands when they want to experiment, while other bands I know maintain their identity and always sound like theirselves when they decide to try something different, for example in Sleeping Dogs And Dead Lions and in Music For A Nurse. Anyway the latter is a masterpiece and it's in my top 5 songs of them!

Mike Vennart solo record coming soon.

Divert Crisis

Having spent nearly 5 years keeping myself occupied - and having a little too much fun - playing guitar for the beautiful Biffy Clyro, I’ve spent an awful lot of time working out exactly what kind of music I want to make. I’m happy to report that my first ‘solo’ record is on the way. Those inverted commas are important - an old friend has been of invaluable help in pushing these songs up the hill. Countless sketches were made in posh hotel rooms in every corner of the globe, and some were then given focus and cohesion in the form of vocal melodies written by my former Oceansize cohort, Steve Durose. We’re kind of like a weird-rock Elton and Bernie. The record also features keyboards from none other than Gambler, former Oceansize guy and my partner in British Theatre. Drums were beat with exceptional vigour by Dean ‘Denzel’ Pearson. His playing is so good it’s actually kind of hilarious.Upon the release of this full length album, I’ll be taking these songs - with these very men - on tour.Expect announcements of shows as and when we’re allowed to reveal them. It’s been a long journey, dreaming up even the impetus for much of this material. I’m glad i arrived at a point where i’m once again making music that i want to hear. The record itself? It is a beautiful, noisy, fuzzy, epic, heavy, stupid, annoying, confrontational journey. It is fucking ace. I can’t wait to get it out there.

also for those who never saw, he released a track last year titled "Operate" that is pretty sweet.

not sure, but I seem to enjoy each song the more I hear them.

I have it at 4-stars, but I could see it going up to 4.5 certainly.

This is just lovely  :heart

It's a shame he hasn't written any longer songs (since most of the best Oceansize songs were longer), but this feels like a very good debut album. Maybe if this gets good reception, he takes some bigger risks with the follow-up.

4.5

Man this album is good. Although I put on the Small Leaks, Sink Ships album (see my avatar) and then this and I can't say I enjoy The Demon Joke more. But I might like it more than anything else that's come out in 2015 besides Small Leaks.

Each track has moments that I enjoy, some of them rather heart-wrenching.

I suppose timing has played a part for me this week as my fiancee is having some unusual issues with her work situation, and it feels like such a transitional period for me and her (she just finished grad school last week after 3.5 years), and The Demon Joke almost feels like Vennart put a lot of energy and emotion of the time lost the last 4+ years. I can just hear it throughout many moments 'A Weight in the Hollow"..the outro namely, ..also on "Duke Fame" and "Rebirthmark"

I almost feel like an old friend has come back from long trip or something, almost like he was missing or dead, and now he's back to stay.

I've only had time to spin it two times, but early standouts are Doubt, Infatuate (that chorus!), Don't Forget the Joker, A Weight in the Hollow and Operate. But the whole album is bloody darn good. I'd be surprised if this isn't in my top5 when I sum up 2015.
