I think that Wasting Light should be called Greatest Hits: Vol. 2.

It's amazing.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

Yeah, it is filled with songs with those big rock anthemic choruses.  20 years ago, it probably could have been one of those albums that had like five or six single and videos, all of which would have been pretty popular.  But the landscape has changed, and I think the days of rock albums with more than a handful of big hits are probably over.

So I finally just got my first Foo Fighters album. Echoes, silence, patience and grace and I love it.  :heart

I've always loved My Hero and Everlong, but for some reason, never got around to getting any of the albums, so I am very glad I finally did.

Dave Grohl is paving all the way into becoming a Rock Legend IMO. In the current Hard Rock world I can't think of anyone else that's as "young" as him and as talented at the same time.

And Wasting Light is an amazing, solid album.

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is their best by far IMO. The others are quite good as well, though none of them has clicked as much.

My ranking after recently give TINLTL another spin and really enjoying it :

1.Foo Fighters
2.The Colour And The Shape
3.Wasting Light
4.There Is Nothing Left To Lose

5.Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace
6.In Your Honour
7.One By One.

But seriously - The Top 3 albums are all so good that they're virtually interchangeable & TINLTL is a very close 4th.

ESP&G is a solid album but has some patchy moments. In Your Honour sounds like they were trying too hard and One By One is very patchy .

2: Colour And The Shape
3: Wasting Light
4: Foo Fighters
5: In Your Honor
6: Echoes
7: One By One

Love all of them though.

Davy Grohl : " Next album will be made in a ground breaking way "...

I've been thinking about what it could be...

Maybe a tour to play all the new songs live and put out a CD of the best versions of the new songs live ?!

Maybe play completely live in a room and record it like a gig in the studio ?

A lot of times - when you know the songs inside out - you improvise a bit and go a bit crazy . . Maybe they could record the new album that way. .

. . then the new songs will be part written / part inspiration. .

If they played thru the entire new album a couple of times a day for like 2 weeks - and picked the versions with the best energy and off-the-cuff moments.

I'm not sure how else you could record an album in a totally new way...

Any thoughts ?

^^ Somehow, I don't like the sound of this when anyone mentions the word "Ground-breaking" in a rock world where there's not too much to break anymore.

But, at always, there's always a lot of good faith involve if Dave Grohl involve heavily in this thing and this Foo Fighters album should be another good one.  Is it going to be as good as Wasting Light, Coleur and the Shape, There's Nothing Left to Lose and In Your Honor (the electric side of it is a very good sleeper and underrated if you ask me)?  Who knows.

The thing to guarantee on this next album is that there will prob. be a huge world tour in support of it, the album will go gold by the end of the 1st year, and that it is going to be a great album and that everyone will think Dave Grohl is a rock god (I'm not in disagreement with them, but it can get tiring to say that Dave Grohl is a god or something like that).

They play everything backwards when recording but then flip it forward before mixing/mastering.

he probs bought the recording equipment of some classic album from the 60s and thinks using it is somehow groundbreaking.

actually, kotowboy might be onto something.

The Black Crowes created their album "Before the Frost...Until the Freeze" in a very similar way. They recorded performances over a series of five nights at Levon Helm Studios. The double cd, while a studio album was put together through recordings of those performances live in front of the band's fans. They choose the versions they liked the best and then compiled the recordings for the record.

The Foos are definitely one of the best mainstream rock bands out there, and one of the few mainstream modern rock bands I listen to frequently.
