This note, just in from Jim:

"I'm happy to say that all the music for FW11 is now written (finally!). Still some lyrics to do, but we're close. Looking forward to sharing this with you in 2013."

Gave me chills. The new album should as well.

^ blame this on me  it just seems that after years of knowing each other and hanging out occasionally Fates Warning and me have become friends and so I have been fangirling over them and made several people listen so far :lol

I've got No Exit, Parallels, Perfect Symmetry, and A Pleasant Shade of Grey. I'd say No Exit is my favorite, but they're all pretty solid.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Of that group I would also cite No Exit as my favorite.  Killer album all the way through.   :metal

Joe DiBiase who played Bass for Fates for years is my age and grew up in my hometown of Milford CT. Both being musicians I used to see him at my gigs quite often.

Still Life is among the best live albums I've ever heard - both the setlist is killer and the performance is outstanding.

Parallels typically gets a lot of high praise, but I feel as though its a flawed gem. It has this lull in the middle of the album.

1.Leave the Past Behind- Excellent song I love it
2.Life in Still Water- Excellent song I love it
3.Eye to Eye- Excellent song I love it
4.The Eleventh Hour - Solid and really decent, but drags a little and throws off the pacing of the album. (didn't need to be 8 minutes)
5.Point of View- ok
6.We Only Say Goodbye- meh
7.Don't Follow Me- meh
8.The Road Goes on Forever- Orgasmic. One of my favorite songs ever written.  :hefdaddy

Kind of a random observation, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

Don't Follow Me is IMO the weakest track.  It's alright but not on the caliber of the rest of the album (I like every other track).

Also, I love the way the guitar solo in Leave the Past Behind ends, with that flurry of notes  :tup

I'm honestly surprised to see someone have a negative opinion of the 11th hour. I've always considered it to be a FW classic. It's a special song in a live setting as well.

I agree with wolf, it's a perfect album for sure. I've never been a fanatic of the arch era. It's good stuff, but doesn't compare to the alder era IMO. Looking forward to the new disc.

I mean, I agree with Phoenix on that one. I've told my family that I'm haunting their butts if they don't play that song at my funeral one day. :lol

Here's the official thread

https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=13347.msg2305699#msg2305699

Thanks!!!! I build up a playlist based on their current set, and think their show will be awesome!!!! Not all albums are represented, but there's a good balance between old and new material.
