Before all of this, I really wasn't familiar with any of these guys, so I'm not really pulling for anyone, but I do find myself leaning towards
Lang. The guy really seems amazing.

I heard from a source who claims he knows that Charlie Z was not one of the 7 who auditioned. Can anyone confirm this? or refute it? :tick2:

Past experiences (mostly sport transfer relations) have forced me to take all suggestions of sources or "little bird told me" with a pinch of salt as it may be very far from the truth or the actual truth. We all know as much as each other.

The only people that know information are the DT guys and the drummers and neither will say anything. Simply because they can't out of respect and not everything will be 100% accurate.

Your wrong on one point. We do not all know as much as someone else. I am not saying this particular info is accurate, but it certainly could be. There are insiders who post on boards. I know a guy that I mocked mercifully for claiming he knew shit about Rush all the time. I was admittedly a dick to him on a few occasions. It turned out his is in the know as he is a member of the Rush road crew. I apologized and wiped the egg off my face.
My point is you never know if info is true or not, but never be so cock sure of yourself that you know it isn't. :tick2:

I do believe the info I got is credible because it came from a credible source who does not say something just to say it. Of course its totally your right to disregard it.

- DT guys.
- The auditionees.
- The auditionees' families and friends back home. ("why are you going to New York for a day, Virgil?")
- The auditionees' collaborators and any bandmates.
- Anyone working at the studio they're using to audition.
- Any other musicians working at the studio.
- DT guys' families and friends - and possibly other musicians.
- Some auditionees who may have been invited but unable to attend.

It's not a massive embargo. There are plenty of ways info could get out. Secrets slip.

I agree that you have to take everything with a pinch of salt, though. It tends to be when a rumour starts to surface in more than one place that I give it credence. People do make stuff up.

I'm sure it won't be long before we find out who auditioned.  I would bet it will be long before we hear who is selected.

A lot of people probably know who auditioned, and it will probably slip out.  If the selection has been made, although the people who know is probably a bigger circle than Rob mentioned (add in agents, management, lawyers, etc.), it will probably stay hush-hush for a few months until DT are ready to make a big announcement.  (I'm curious to see whether it will be announced before or after they go into the studio, but either way wouldn't surprise me)

I've got some leaks, my mum says it's ok.

I don't know any of those drummers nor do I have any idea about drumming but I like Marco Minneman guy, even if (or maybe because) he is a bit goofy.

I don't think Mike is going to do it, as he is super busy at the school. I'll ask Rod on Wed when I see him.

Can Peter Wildoer even get into the States to audition?  I understand some sort of visa problem cancelled the LaBrie tour (for which i purchased a VIP ticket, sob).  I wonder if this the visa issue might connected to him, and if it hinders his auditioning.

The auditions already happened, and my guess is that Peter didn't need to get a work visa to hang out in NY for a day or two, so if he is one of the seven, he probably got a chance to audition.  I too hope he didn't get the job.  Didn't see anything really special about his drumming the way Lang, Z, or Minnemann have some kind of special style.

If its not going to be Lang I want Marco really bad.  I was looking at his Racer X stuff and his playing is right up DTs alley.  He might actually be the best fit.
If anyone in this thread judge him; heyy James WTF? about you in Awake In Japan? Then I will say; WTF about you silly?

Interestingly, Charlie Zelany has posted on Facebook that there's a "big gig announcement coming soon. Stay tuned!"

All of which may just be him teasing the fans before announcing that he's playing with some jazz band in a NY hotel or something. Who knows . . .

While I still want Marco in, I would also be happy with Charlie Z. Recently discovered Blotted science, and discovered he is the drummer. Awesome stuff!
Also, a little off topic, but is there some connection between spastic ink and blotted science, or is it just me?. Musically, they are strikingly similar; tonally as well as some similar licks n riffs etc (although spastic is a little more shred orientated and blotted more metal \m/ ).

btw, just throwing it out there, I am slowly loosing interest in finding out who the new drummer will be lol (or at least less caring, as opposed to checking for news from twitters/facebooks and forums day-in day-out). Any one else feel the same? surely some of the die hard forumers will disagree haha.

This. Spastic Ink is Rob Jarzombek with Bobby Jarzombek on drums, and Blotted Science is Rob with Charlie Z. Personally I think Spastic Ink is much superior, but that's just me. Man that's one epic family. If they have a sister, I bet she's hot.

My first choice for DT drums would have been Bobby J, but if he's not available (as seems likely) then Lang is my favourite for the position
