True, a "real" single with music video and separate release is unlikely for an EP. I hope they just put a song on youtube when the preorder phase starts.

This again? I thought we settled this.

We need to talk about something to pass the time until they release a single.
I'm not sure they'll release a single, they may just wait to release the EP.
We Could talk about Portnoy and why he left DT

How can Crystallised be the centerpiece of the EP if it's not the track exactly at the middle?

Basically, he says that, although they're to happy with The Mountain, they still believe they can still climb and reach another peak (pun intended), and they're not worried about external pressure but the internal one, to demonstrate themselves they can make another great album. They also love playing live, despite being difficult to play the songs and interact with the fans at the same time. And he still doesn't believe that, 10 years after being a prog fan that used to go to DT gigs, now he's in contact with Rudess and Portnoy. ProgNationAtSea was the best experience for the band on the last two years. And finally, they accept that people download their albums because  that allow more people to know them and therefore some people attend to their concerts.

Track lengths are up: https://hakenmusic.com/blog/post/haken-restoration-ep-will-be-released-october-27th

The new Blind is 7 Minuten long (rather than 12). Seems like it has been heavily reworked.

"Vinyl and digital download". I hope they just mean in addition to the expected CD release, because I'm in love with physical copies but don't have a vinyl player. :(

I hope you're right. Releasing an album on vinyl only in 2014 would be like releasing a film only on VHS.

The only difference being that people actually listen to vinyl still, because of the different sound. I even want a record player myself, but I'm not shitting out money for it yet.

They've already said this will be a "digital only" release.   However (and maybe this was already mentioned) I did hear that the vinyl release in the UK *will* include a CD.   But you'll have to buy the vinyl and pay import prices to get it in the US.   (which, at this point, I am willing to do)

Maybe someone more "in the know" than I can confirm or deny this...

I wasn't aware that it was digital only, but that's a bit disappointing if so. I don't know why any bands do that. The Dear Hunter tried it with The Color Spectrum and there was such an uproar that they ended up releasing a CD boxset later on.

EDIT: Yeah seems it is as you say Jammin. Eh, Haken is one of the bands I make the effort to get physical copies of, but I have no use for vinyl. :sadpanda:

Not sure whether the bands or the labels decide it, but I think it's a profit decision. Vinyls retail at higher prices than CDs and I assume they carry higher profit margins.

A quote from the bands Facebook said that if there was a CD only offer, it would be exactly the same price...so you're not getting an extra charge for buying the bundle.   One person had a good idea, they said that they would buy the bundle and hang the vinyl on the wall.   Heck...if you *really* don't want  the vinyl that much, sell it and get your money back.   I'm sure that the few people who really don't want it THAT BADLY will have no problems finding a buyer.

Yeah, I agree with ariich. Don't need the vinyl, not interested in digital only. I guess I'll wait around for album #4.

As long as I can get a high quality version, like a flac release or something, I'll happily buy it.

I must be one of the few who don't get all excited over physical copies of albums anymore. I do 95% of my listening at my computer anyway, which has the best sound system for me. Whenever I do get physical copies I rip them to FLAC and put them in the CD shelf to collect dust. I don't have a need to flip through the booklets and such either.

Guys, I just found out there are bootlegs of the shows from 28.08. and 30.08. floating around, two shows when they played Darkest Light.
The audio quality is bad, but it's informative nonetheless.

With some of my favourite bands, I like to collect the physical copies. For the rest, digital is ok (there's only so much space to store physical copies after all). Haken are definitely one of those bands, so it's a shame really. I'm not sure what the rationale is in this case, as it's not to save on the cost of designing/pressing/etc the CDs as they're including them with the vinyl.

Ah well, the most important thing is the quality of the music. Fingers crossed they'll to what TDH did with the Color Spectrum and release a CD-only version later on!

What's the forum policy for openly discussing this sort of thing when it involves bands other than DT?

Hai guys.

Just dropping by to say that I'm enjoying Aquarius a hell lot. I think it's a great album, obviously overshadowed by The Mountain; but nevertheless it has great moments.

As I said though, it's not saving them anything on cost, but it is limiting their audience. So it doesn't make sense to be financial reasons.
