I saw vague hints on the Facebook page saying things like "I prefer the original mix of the songs". Are they actually rerecording the demo CD? O.O

Yeah, I could see that, though it would be my guess if they were going to revisit those songs they would re-arrange and add things to them to bring them up to speed and make them fresh.

I'd be up for some re-recordings of the stuff off of the demo.

And I'd also be down for the return of the growls if they were used correctly. Streams is still one of my fav songs.

Considering that it's an EP, and there was one report that there's at least one "epic" on this EP...I really doubt it's a re-recording of any old material.   I think they're still touring and they didn't have time for a full album, so they're putting together an EP's worth of new material during a break in the tour.

They also said that they gave themselves a time limit for this thing, implying that they were writing with specific restrictions, not redoing old material.

From their Facebook page:

Here are the first reviews of the EP from some trusted friends and colleagues:

"You guys are crazy"

"FU - KIN INSANE!!"

"Whoa! can I get a meter chart?"

and

"That last track just about blew my doors off"

This, for sure.

Also, I would just like to say that Celestial Elixir is one of the most amazing songs ever.

At one point it rivaled Octavarium for my favorite song of all time. Octavarium still ended up beating it out for me, but for me to even consider it is impressive. I can only think of two other songs that did that for me.

The instrumental section is pretty much the best instrumental section I've ever heard though.

Well, even though this band was not much to my liking at first, some of their stuff has grown on me.  I do like Celestial Elixir quite a bit, some of the songs on Visions I like (although I cannot pick them out off hand), and most of The Mountain is good (sans Cockroach King, which still sucks).  Pareidolia is definitely the song by them I like the most right now.  I still don't agree with the opinions about them being so totally awesome, but the majority of their stuff is enjoyable enough.

They just asked everyone on the Facebook page if they would like to hear a teaser of the upcoming EP. Fanboy energy is ramping.

In any case the set list was posted: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/haken/2014/colos-saal-aschaffenburg-germany-13ce6981.html

I wonder if they'll play any of the new material before the EP actually comes out?

I thought it was interesting that they opened with Nocturnal Conspiracy without Premonition before it.

I believe they premiered a recording of the orchestral version of Premonition as an intro tape (by Symphonic Theater of Dreams).

Here's the art for Premonition which is the single, they're doing a full album though:

Me too. There's something very symphonic about Haken's music (in a structural sense) and I think some of the songs could make fantastic orchestral pieces.

The Mountain is probably the easiest to get into.

Personally, I'd suggest starting with Aquarius, then moving on to Visions and then to The Mountain. I got into Haken just after Aquarius had been released, and it's a really good order to see the band grow. Every single album is excellent!

I agree with Onno. All three albums are spectacular so you don't have to worry about getting a dud with any of them. All of them take time to get into, but I wouldn't say that one of them takes more time than the others. It is definitely fun to follow the development of the band a bit, though. I got them in chronological order and I don't think I could have enjoyed them more. Don't worry about Aquarius having the typical issues that debut albums often have, by the way. If I had been told that it was their seventh or eighth album before I first heard it, I would absolutely have believed it.

And now I'm eagerly awaiting the new EP! :tup
