I'm not sure how much SuperDude likes Rush, but I'd definitely recommend Moving Pictures, A Farewell to Kings, Power Windows, and Hemispheres.

Is he into Porcupine Tree?  I forget.  If he doesn't know them, then I recommend Lightbulb Sun, In Absentia, The Incident, Deadwing, Stupid Dream, and Signify.

Yes and yes.  I have Rush's ST, Caress of Steel, 2112, and Moving Pictures.  I used to have Fly By Night but it was lost with one of my crapful Windows laptops a few years back.

I'm also really into PT. :P I have all of the above.

Portrucci, I'm really loving Neu! :tup

Bruce Dickinson - Chemical Wedding
Kamelot - Black Halo
Queensryche - Rage for Order
Yngwie Malmsteen - Odyssey
Nevermore - Dead Heart in a Dead World
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Exodus - Atrocity Exhibition
Machine Head - The Blackening
Iced Earth - Horror Show
Celtic Frost - Monotheist
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Testament - Formation of Damnation
Death - Sound of Perseverance
Type O Negative - October Rust
Sepultura - Arise
Danzig - 4p
King Diamond - Abigail
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny

That should get you started.

That's too metal for SuperDude

Perhaps he may consider leaving his wuss phase and step up :p

I don't listen to death/doom/dark metal because every time I hear those RORORORO vocals I can't stop myself :lolpalm:ing.

...WHAT HAPPENED TO LOLPALM!?!?!?
1. What the fuck is dark metal
2. Doom metal (At least traditional doom metal) doesn't have harsh vocals. Does this sound RORORORO to you?

I checked them out upon the suggestion of their concept album The Alchemy Index. Now I've read reviews about them saying this project isn't very indicative of their earlier work, and is pretty experimental as far as their "original sound" goes, but from what I heard of the four Volumes/Elements, it's a really great record and I plan on getting it whenever I have the cash. I love the idea/concept of creating a body of work based on the classical elements and writing music to reflect that element. It really shows what the band can do and I enjoy that sort of experimentation.

Well Beggars, the next and latest album feels similar to it. Before it came Vheissu, of which the Air EP feels kind of similar to. But if you go beyond Vheissu then sure, it's post-hardcore, but it's still the same thrice style.

I do like Artist in the Ambulance.  You are right that there was an experimental shift on Vheissu.

The most recent great album I listened to is Funeral by Arcade Fire. Check out "Rebellion (Lies)" on Youtube for a sample, and even if you don't like it at first, just make sure you stick around 'till the end.

Everyone who has heard it before knows what I am talking about.

Agreed. And you picked the definitive classic. First song, first album. If you don't immediately fall in love...well, then give up living :metal

We should start a Candlemass fanboy thread. Will probably be just us, but oh well :lol

:tup on "Rebellion," but I actually like The Suburbs and Neon Bible more than Funeral.  I know I'm in the superminority there.

The fact that you have not listened to Terria yet is horrible.

Only if you get the Special 2-Disc edition of the album. The bonus songs on the second disc are pretty damn good, and SB made a mistake of leaving them off the album in place of some of the songs they DID put on the album.

Also, the opening suite is pretty epic, thirty minutes of rocking good music. I would probably start with Octane or the band's latest album X. Actually, if you like either of those, I would get the other, then their other two Nick-Era albums Feel Euphoria and Spock's Beard.

Sleepy Sun - Fever

Awesome retro/space/blues rock with psychedelic guitar solos, and vocals that sound like Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. Organic in sound, and adventurous in structure. Live they're really that Grateful Dead-esque jam band.

Check out their single 'Open Eyes'. I was grabbed from the start.
