Most studio albums of bands in your CD collection
« on: September 13, 2010, 02:27:59 PM »
Inspired by the thread 'entire discography' thread. I've included EPs/live albums/bside albums in brackets.. I'm not a huge metal head, nor do I have a huge number of CDs, so my list will probably be vastly different to others.

Dream Theater - 7 (+4)
Super Furry Animals - 8 (+1)
Radiohead - 7 (+3)
Porcupine Tree - 7 (+1)
Manic Street Preachers  6 (+1)
REM 6
Cure (the) 6
Bruce Springsteen 6
Metallica 6
The Smiths 5
Sigur ros 5
Spiritualized    5
Pink Floyd 5 (+1)

I guess this is physical only?

Because I have to say my Beatles Vinyl collection again  ;).  It is pretty rad.

I'd have to be home looking at my CD shelf to give accurate numbers, but I know my top 3 bands would be Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Y&T.  Each takes up a very large amount of space.

Going outside of studio albums Dream Theater would win for me, as the number of items I have from them are staggering.

*Checking*

Porcupine Tree - 17 releases (2 DVD's included)
Opeth - 12 releases (2 DVD's included)
Anathema - 10 releases (1 DVD included)
Iron Maiden - 18 releases (2 DVD's included)
Dream Theater - 11 releases

It's not that im a HUGE Maiden-fan, the fact that i have the most with them is mostly because of these factors:
*I've known Maiden pretty long compared to other bands i listen to today
*Maiden have made more albums/DVDs and such
*Their albums are easy to obtain

Without checking my numbers, Rush, DT, PT, Marillion, and TFK are probably tops for me. And actually anything TFK related probably gets a high amount from me. Oh, also Yes and Genesis (I own the 90's remasters as well as all 3 box sets from a couple years ago, and the Live box set too - still need the movie box soon though).

Physically, Iron Maiden would win with four albums (most of my music is unfortunately digital).

Including digital music, it'd be Metallica with sixteen.

Kansas - 14

If we add live albums and such, that number goes up to 20.

Unless it's legally purchased DIGITAL NEVER COUNTS FOR ANYTHING.

Here's some visuals... About 98% of the music I own is a legally purchased physical copy, be it CD or DVD. I think these are some of my most complete/highest numbered collections. The only ones that've grown significantly have been my Marillion and Porcupine Tree/Wilson-Related collections, of which I do not have any pictures of. I think once I update the rest of these bands/artists, I'll take new pictures before they release new albums next year (of which Rush, DT, possibly Yes, Marillion, PT/PT-related, possibly TFK, possibly Neal Morse-Related).

Relatively old picture, it's missing the single disc version of BC&SL and the last four YtseJamRecords releases (Chile DVD, TOT Demos, Making of FII, and Uncovered 03-05).

This one is also missing a couple recent releases, such as the Montreaux CDs and DVD, and the Symphonic Live CD set.

This one is only up to the release of R30, so I've S&A, S&A Live, and I think every other official release since then.

This was everything I had before the remastered Box Sets came out, which I have all four CD ones, but still need the Movie Box. Also missing is the Tour Edition of Turn It On Again and Live Over Europe CD set and the When In Rome DVD set.

This was taken January 2008, so I'm missing things SINCE then (new Tangent, recent Roine projects, the rest of Karmakanic's and Kaipa's albums, Eggs & Dogs' YOU ARE, and a few more).

-Marc.

Probably Elton John, considering I have all 30 of his studio albums and most of his live albums/dvds.

Dream Theater - 33 albums, 2 VHS, and 9 DVDs, + 6 bootlegs of concerts I attended (someone else recorded)
Rush is second on the basis of their studio albums.  18 studio albums, 3 live ones, and 2 DVD's (if I count "Behind the Lighted Stage")

That would have to be Kiss (haven't counted but it's 20+). Runner up would be Iron Maiden, Beach Boys, and Judas Priest.
