The prog snobs will pan this band..but it's fun music..no wonder mikey wants to play for them.
Nah, it has nothing to do with being a Prog snob. I do love prog but I listen to everything from Iron Maiden to Mozart. From Stevie Wonder to Syro Gyra, to Squeeze.
Good music is good music, and to me this stuff is just cheesy. Pre pubescent teeny bopper pop metal is how I define this band. I will respectfully now leave this thread be.
Sorry, I just couldn't accept your analogy. :)

I don't understand the hate towards this band. It's just fun music, you people are really surprised that MP would play with a band like this?

Yes, because he was in the best prog metal band in the world.

If they hadn't changed their sound, I'd literally have zero interest in them, so I'm very glad they did.

This. In a previous thread, I said, "Hey, I love Nightmare and City of Evil, which other similar A7X albums would I like?" And some genius in the thread said Waking the Fallen. Listen to one song. NEVER AGAIN.  ;)

I can understand not liking this band, I'm certainly not a fan.  But I'm very confused at how people are calling them "teeny bopper" music.  Is it because they're endorsed by young Hot Topic crowds or...what?  They don't seem teeny bopper friendly at all.  Lacuna Coil?  Maybe.

Or maybe its all just because Tick's an old man.

I think it's more because they were affiliated with that whole teeny-bopper scene of "core" bands in the mid 2000's

Not just you. We've had plenty of them since Mike played on A7X's latest album and even more after he quit DT since the fans want someone to blame and A7X just happen to be the easiest target.

Why don't we just blame Mike?  Sounds like a good strategy to me.

What do you want me to say? That's what it sounds like to me. Its new generation metal geared towards a younger crowd, and yup, that aint me. I am older. I'm heading for 46 and this music does not connect with me. I glad I'm an old man at this point cause I was born in 64. If I wasn't an old man I'd be dead, so I'm happy to be around. Trust me, when you reach your 40's you will not see yourself as old. I was 18 too once, but the years fly by. I hope you stick around and reach my age so young kids can have fun picking on you. :) :tup

Yeah, but that ain't me. I don't blame A7X for anything, nor do I feel they stole Mike, or any such shit like that. I don't believe he quit DT because of A7X. As far as me being one of the A7X trolls on the board? Nope, I can't agree their either. I listened to the band with an open mind and I just don't like it. I'm not on a crusade against them, I just don't dig their music. I didn't come into this thread to raise hell I came in to give my honest opinion of this band,(in a joking manner) and that opinion just happens to be a negative one. I don't see why that qualifies me as a troll?
You won't find any sour grapes posts by me blaming A7X for Mikes departure. I totally believe it would have happened anyhow.

....I won't harp on you double posting old man..you probably did it from a Mac.

Fine I get the teeny bopper thing..but it's still fun. It's like Metallica for the radio metal. Like..easily digestible metal for people who don't like metal.

My wife loves this shit...and if it gets her ass on a treadmill for an hour than ~BAM~, I hope they come out with a Nightmare 2!...hmm...they could even call it Nightmare Cinema.

First off, I didn't double post? I responded to two different posts. Truth be told I'm not savvy enough to quote multiple posts in one and respond to more then one thing. I must be too old to care?

Secondly, I don't care if people love this music. If people like it, enjoy. Music is subjective and that's what makes it great I simply stated my opinion on it, and I was called a troll for doing so. Whatever.
I agree about the treadmill and the wife thing! I can't argue with that one. :lol

I agree, A7X's last three albums have been fun metal with the occasional well-executed serious song. They're far from being one of my favourite bands, but I really can't fault them on doing what they do well. :tup

I don't get the hate either.  Yeah, it's aimed at a younger crowd.  So what?  That doesn't make it bad.  In fact, but for the gratuitous profanity, I would actually say I like this album.  Anyhow...

Oh, and YtseBitsySpider, please stop referring to me as "the treadmill."  Thanks.

It qualifies you as a troll because it has nothing to do with the thread. If the thread title were "Do you like A7X?", your post would be legitimate. This thread is about which album to start with, so your rant about disliking the band is totally irrelevant. A negative, off-topic post designed to evoke an emotional response is the exact definition of a forum troll.

As for the OP, City of Evil is the bread and butter A7X album. The early stuff is much weaker than the last 3 albums. After City of Evil I would go with the self titled album, then Nightmare.

@bosk: :lol Nice one.

@ZKX: I would take Lost out of that list. I don't mind the song, but it's pretty much the cheesiest and most heavily auto-tuned song they've done (the latter deliberately, as that's the effect they were going for, but still), so I can't imagine it's desparately popular with A7X fans.

It's a fun, fast, poppy yet rocking song with an awesome... everything. Don't hate. Auto tune is fine when done right any way... though I have been known to listen to Attack Attack at times so I may be biased.

Also the closing solo is just too fun.

Sure, as I said, I quite like it. But it's hardly very representative of A7X, which is what you seemed to be intending with that list. :P

A Little Piece of Heaven is decent, but most of the rest of what I've heard has not appealed to me at all. Almost Easy, Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot, maybe I've heard some others, but those are the main ones. And I WOULD like Beast and the Harlot if it weren't for the fact that it's a good song, and then the chorus happens and it's like "What the fuck happened to this song?"

I don't get the hate either.

I don't think it's "hate" per se, but rather the realization that the only reason they get attention on these boards is because of MP's involvement with them.

It's not hate...it's frustration because someone (not referring to Tick) can't fathom why people are shooting loads over this band. I feel the same way when people start fawning over Porcupine Tree and OSI..
