Entire discographies.
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:22:42 PM »
I'm sure there are bound to be plenty of members that collect/own the entire discographies of their favorite bands. Which ones have you completed? This is a pure show-off thread. :)

For me:

Agalloch
Alice In Chains
Amorphis
Arcturus
Children of Bodom
Dark Tranquillity
Dream Theater
Edge of Sanity
Eternal Tears of Sorrow
Evergrey
Insomnium
Kalmah
Megadeth
Muse
Nightingale
Nine Inch Nails
Opeth
Pain of Salvation
Pink Floyd
Radiohead
Reflexion
Skyfire
Subway Mirror
Swallow the sun
Ulver
Unicorn
Yes

and bands that only have released one album: Dan Swano, Odyssey, Wintersun, Imperanon, For My Pain

And I'm spent.

I'm terrible about this, but:

Tool
John Mayer
Guns N Roses
Metallica
A Perfect Circle
Dream Theater
She & Him
Damien Rice
Green Day
Arctic Monkeys

There's normally one or two albums from a band that I'm not a huge fan of so I don't bother with.

Anathema
Opeth

Then i have ALMOST full discographies with the following:

Porcupine Tree (i lack Lightbulb Sun which i can't get a copy of here)
Radiohead (Pablo Honey, which i have no plans on buying right now)
Agalloch (Pale Folklore, cant get a copy of it here)
Dream Theater (when Dream and Day Unite, no plans on buying)
Riverside (Out of Myself, cant get a copy)

Then there are ofc bands that has only made 2 albums or something, but cba listing those.

Jesus... I've just realised how few of these I have.

Dream Theater
Frost*
Muse
Porcupine Tree
Pure Reason Revolution

...And I think that's it! Not counting sideprojects, who typically have only a handful of albums anyway. There are a lot of bands who I have many albums by, but I've typically got a couple of salient ones missing, or a couple of eras that I'm not too fond of.

Urgh, not much.

Alice in Chains (I don't have Jar of Flies, but that's an EP so I can choose not to count it to artificially inflate my numbers!)
Muse
Mastodon (I don't have Remissions)
Diablo Swing Orchestra (It's easy owning all their stuff when they only have 2 albums!)
The Sword
Wolfmother

Ones I'm close on:
Avenged Sevenfold (Missing Sounding the Seventh Trumpet)
Baroness (I only have the Blue Album)
Soundgarden (Missing Louder than Love, Ultramega OK, Screaming Life)
Guns n' Roses (Missing GnR Lies, but that album kinda sucks so I prolly won't get it)
The Mars Volta (Missing Amputechture)
DT (Missing FII, WDADU, and ACoS)

I'm just going to assume that we're not talking about singles, as well. In that case, off the top of my head:

Dream Theater
Barenaked Ladies
Nine Inch Nails
Marilyn Manson
Queens of the Stone Age
Muse
Coheed & Cambria
The Ataris
Chicago
Rob/White Zombie
Opeth
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Eminem
Jay-Z
Explosions in the Sky
God is an Astronaut
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Foo Fighters
Prodigy

Too many more to name. Maybe one day I'll come up with a comprehensive list.
HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!  THIS is why LHK is the President of Awesome.

Not going to count bands/artists with only one known studio album - that seems like cheating to me.

Ayreon
The Beatles
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones
Blackfield
Coheed And Cambria
Coldplay
Discipline
Dominici
Dream Theater
Tomas Bodin/Eggs & Dogs
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Powell/3
The Explorers Club
The Flower Kings
Genesis
IQ
The Jelly Jam
Jordan Rudess
Journey
Kaipa
Kansas
Karmakanic
King Crimson
Led Zeppelin
Liquid Tension Experiment/Liquid Trio Experiment (1 & 2)
Marillion
The Mars Volta
Muse
Neal Morse
No-Man
OSI
Pink Floyd
The Police
Porcupine Tree
Radiohead
Riverside
Roine Stolt
Rush
Spock's Beard
Symphony X
The Tangent
Tiles
Tool
Transatlantic
U.K.
The Who
Yes

There's probably about 5-6 bands I'm only missing 1-2 albums from, and probably a dozen more I'm missing 3-5 from, but I'm getting there. This is only from collecting music over the last 8-9 years, so slowly but surely...

Bands I plan on complete (taken from dreamtheatervt's idea):
Queen
Boston (still missing Corporate America!!!)
Deep Purple (well, maybe...haven't decided yet)
Chicago (Terry Kath-era, at least)
Styx
U2
Opeth
Mastodon
Redemption
Shadow Gallery
Supertramp
Van Der Graaf Generator (someday...gotta revisit them again)

-Marc.

I don't actually know, how sad is that.  Hah.

Without even looking through my music folder, I'm fairly sure I have everything that Porcupine Tree, Ulver, Radiohead, Opeth, and Oceansize have released.  but even if I look I can't confirm any of it.  I think a trip to rateyourmusic.com is in order.

...it's something I've been meaning to do anyway. ¬.¬

Going to say "more than two albums," because that makes PRR, Frost*, Dethklok, Cynic, and Blackfield really easy choices.

Dream Theater
Coheed & Cambria
Arcade Fire
The Dear Hunter
The Mars Volta (I got Amp and Bedlam around the same time before I knew that nothing would beat De-Loused.  Got Octahedron because it was right next to BC&SL.  Don't even listen to this band that much anymore...)
Opeth

Amazing how I'm missing an album or two from my two favorite bands (Rush and PT): both debuts and Presto.

I would, but the problem for me is:
1. I don't own a card needed for that myself yet
2. My parents are in the category "i dont want to give out my card-number to a big record-label because they will rip me off" talk about paranoia. :P

Find a seller on eBay who accepts Money Orders. It's what my brother did for the longest times before he got a card.

Are we including bootlegs, compilations, and live? If not, I have digital discographies of Dream Theater, Metallica, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Liquid Tension Experiment, Symphony X, and OSI. It's kind of my personal preference to not download live albums, since I usually don't listen to them even if I had them.

Downloading shouldn't count period.  Any jackass can download everything - unless you are talking about legal downloads like amazon and iTunes, in which case count those.

But I think its implied just studio albums.

As long as you've heard the albums/own them in some way, shape, or form, I don't think it matters if you physically own the copies. I counted downloaded albums on my list, and I don't see why they shouldn't count (no, I don't mean illegal downloads!).

Would you say listening to a full album on youtube wouldn't count? You haven't paid for the album at all but heard it anyway.
