I was debating whether Anthem should be in there or not, but they can still pull off Circumstances and Freewill (to a certain degree) and if they were to play it they'd of course tone it down from the studio version like most old songs. Caravan is one of my favorite Rush songs so there's no way I'd take it out, now that I think about it I'd probably replace Show Don't Tell with La Villa Strangiato.

You can replace Show Don't Tell with almost anything and make the set better.

Hmmm. Now that I think about it, Stick It Out would be great for a set closer!   :metal  :D

Holy cow, you managed to pick one of the few songs that might actually be worse than Show Don't Tell.

For the record, here is the list of Rush songs that should never have been made-

Rivendell
I Think I'm Going Bald
Kid Gloves
Red Lenses
Show Don't Tell
Superconductor
Stick it Out

And while Vapor Trails may not have any single songs that are worse than those listed there are so many things about it that needed to be re-worked or never happen.

Also, I can honestly say I think this is the most negative I've ever been about Rush. :lol

Why do you hate Kid Gloves so much Nick? I can't for the life of me listen to that song and identify anything wrong with it.

Funnily enough I think it's the album that it's on that probably makes me dislike it a bit. If the song was modernized and appeared on Test For Echo I'd probably like it, but on Grace Under Pressure it sticks out like a sore thumb and I never really enjoyed it.

Kid Gloves and Show Don't Tell are good songs.  Stick it Out is okay, but its nowhere near the horror that is "Red Lenses," "Tai Shan," or "Dog Years."

Wow, how can someone fit so much being wrong in one post? Those are all great songs, and Vapor Trails has some solid moments.

Quote
"Dog Years."
With different lyrics, Dog Years (and Virtuality for that matter) would be a good song. But yeah, as is, it's one of the few songs where the lyrics are actually bad enough to significantly lower my opinion of it.

Seriously, Kid Gloves and Red Lenses are amazing  :heart

And Superconductor is a fine song as well.

I actually like Tai Shan.  :|

If this means they'll take their time to craft a well written, well produced, well mixed, well mastered album, then by ALL means, take most of 2011 to do it RIGHT, not that Snakes & Arrows was horrible in ANY of those matters, but I'd like to hear them pull of a modern Rush MASTERPIECE, from start to finish.

The ONLY song by Rush I always skip is Rivendell. Sorry, I just can't get into it. Every year I play through their WHOLE discography and yes that includes Crazy Dancer and a few other "first" songs.

Well considering they've already written most of the album, they'll have time to go over those pieces, refine them and touch them up before even going in to re-record them for the album next spring. Then while they wait for the album to be mastered and pressed, they could probably do a short tour in Europe, ya know, to make up for the lack of one this year.

Then the album gets released about a year from now or so, then they begin the tour in support of the album in late winter/early spring of 2012, and tour for most of the year (8-10 months maybe, with a month break in between).

I like "Rivendell."

"Fly By Night" is probably my least favorite on that album.

"In The End" and "Beneath, Between And Behind" are probably the two songs I always want to hear most whenever I put on Fly By Night.

Fly By Night is my least favorite on the album, the guitar tone make me wanna pull my hair out. I love By-Tor and Anthem though.

I'm glad "Anthem" is the first track, because I put on Fly By Night and just listen to the opening track all the time.  But sometimes I let it play through, because "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" is also awesome.

I listened to A Farewell To Kings last night and was reminded how great an album it is. Its weird but its old Rush that made me a fan yet I always tend to listen to the 80's stuff more?
I love every era of Rush but Snakes And Arrows wasn't my favorite effort. Still a decent album though. I love about half of it, and the other half is filler imo.

AFTK is my second favorite album.  You can't beat six great songs like that.  I'm a big fan of S&A.  There's no filler until the last few tracks, IMO (except "Bravest Face."  Thats a song that just doesn't get enough love for whatever reason.)

AFTK has more filler than S&A, I feel. Apart from Xanadu and Cygnus, nothing really wowed me

I listened through Signals today and I have to say that Chemistry is growing more on me. An overlooked track for sure

I don't care for Madrigal or CTTH much. And the title track is pretty meh to me

S&A's filler includes Spindrift and Good News First

I like Faithless and We Hold On unlike the rest of you losers :P

I picked up a copy of Signals yesterday. Before, I had only heard Subdivisions and New World Man. I've listened to it 3 times through and I'm not sure what to think of it. Apart from The Analog Kid, the album seems way too relaxed. It sounds sterile. Maybe I just need to let it grow on me.
