Nice!  Even better was the comment:

"Petrucci is like Bacon: He makes everything better."

A little bummed that it stopped where EJ came in, tho.

Pretty cool, but I personally liked Sat's more.

That was awesome. Yeah, too bad it cut out when Eric Johnson came out. Satch, Petrucci and Johnson. That is badass.

A guitar student of mine (he's 15) wants to play Cliffs of Dover. I'll better go study that myself first, holy crap.

Well, once you get past the intro, it isn't TOO difficult.  Some tricky parts for sure, but it's mostly fairly straightforward.  The big thing about EJ though is that he's very particular about how certain things are fingered.  He has extremely odd chord shapes he plays out in the intro, and a couple in the song proper.  The main theme or the "chorus", he insists that the leading note, that slides down each time MUST be played with the pinky.  He admits that yeah, the ring finger is stronger and could be used, but that it doesn't give it the right feel.  A little TOO particular, if you ask me, but the dude is amazing, so maybe he's onto something.

Probably a bit too particular, I agree, but you can't argue with the man's results! :)

I agree with this 100%.  As much as I love John's shred capabilities, I ADORE stuff like TCOT and this.  Hell, even the solo in Wither is just damn singable.

I just got done teaching this to one of my students, so if you need any help with it, shoot me a PM.

Not at all.  Stuff like Cliffs of Dover, Trademark, Zap, etc.  Just unbelievable.  Such an excellent sense of melodic and a completely out there solo style (that half the time comes off a lot more linear than boxy) that you're just like "Is this guy for real?"
