Disturbed - Asylum
« on: August 29, 2010, 03:22:55 AM »
Discuss the new Disturbed album.  I just picked up my CD/DVD copy today.

The packaging is pretty crappy.  Once you unwrap the cd, the 'doors' just sit there, flapping halfway open, not very practical.  Their name isn't on the front either.  The normal edition cover is much better.  Very average booklet also with cheesy band photos pretending the are in an asylum.  :\

So far I've listened to the first 6 songs.  It's generic Disturbed, but pretty okay.  So far, it doesn't seem to have as many hooks as what Indestructible did.  Another Way to Die is excellent.

Not gonna judge yet, until I give it quite a few spins.

Discuss, any fans???

Christ, I didn't know an album had to be over 50 minutes with songs longer than 5 minutes to be good, sarcasm or not.

Asylum sounding OK. The other 2 songs that were streamed sucked. It really has become extremely boring. And this is coming from a huge fan of Ten Thousand Fists and Indestructible.

I'm on the fence. Big fan of the band here since Believe (don't care for the first album as much as everything that follows).

I will get it, but I am on the fence whether I download it from amazon, or if I shell out the cash and get the deluxe edition at the store. The DVD is the selling point. If the DVD is actually well done and worth buying, I'll do it. But if you can, please tell me how the DVD is.

I am looking forward to hearing the record, but while I enjoyed the addition of even more solos on Indestructible and like it, I'll be a bit let down if it is basically more of the same. I was looking for them to move forward even further...

Apparently, the DJs of my local rock station have been told that they must play "Another Way to Die" roughly 4,386 times per day or else they'll be fired. I hear it every single time I'm in the car.

If I hear that song one more goddamn time.

Haven't watched the DVD yet, when I eventually get around to it I'll post.  I'll repeat though, the packaging of the special edition is pure crap!!

lol.

Can't hurt. And given from what the length of it and my knowledge of Disturbed's past I gotta say it's most likely another "verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus" borefest.

And there was me thinking that Reign in Blood is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. But it can't be, right? i mean, it's only 29 minutes long! And there are no songs over 5 minutes! I guess I'd also better not listen to Rage Against The Machine, The Battle of Los Angeles right? And forget about Megadeth, Killing is my Business...And Business is Good, and Born of Osiris, The New Reign, hmm? As these albums are all under 50 minutes with no songs over 5 minutes?

Silly man

I listened to Asylum, the song.

Eh. Just sounds like everything else they've done. The singer really needs to stop writing the same vocal parts to every song, it's getting boring as hell.

Yeah, they have not moved forward really, and yes, the vocal melodies aren't very original.

Eight songs in and finally something grabbed my attention. DAMNIT DISTURBED! One thing that bothers me is when I hear the same vocal melodies of past songs.... Over and over again. FUCK! At least I didn't get the special edition. I just wish I got more trade value for the shit I traded to get this disappointment. Well, internet would have helped too.

There is only one good thing about this album - the art is drawn by the impeccable Raymond Swanland.

Yeah, I think it might track 7 or 8.  It was the first one that made me listen up, it has a great feel and excellent vocal melody.  Probably the first song which deviated from the repetitive vocal melodies.

Unfortunately, one good song out of 13 isn't enough to keep me around. I haven't listened to the U2 cover in full, but what I heard sounds weird.

Same, I haven't heard the whole thing, but it sounds like a generic Distrubed cover, just like Land of Confusion and Shout.

I'm really liking the title track.

Shout 2000 was awesome and Land of Confusion was pretty cool, but they need to stop with the covers now. The title track has too many past vocal melodies wrapped up in one song. It's actually annoying to me.

I don't know. It's starting to grow on me but it still feels like I've heard these songs a hundred times already. Warrior's verses are Sons of Plunder's and My Child's riff is a slowed down version of Sons Of Plunder's riff. I like that song but I don't want to hear copycats, especially from the same band.

Cool stuff, I'll make sure I give it a couple of spins.

Also gotta say, the bonus live tracks are pretty weak.
