Where to start with The Flower Kings?
« on: August 24, 2010, 06:50:14 AM »
So after diving into Transatlantic, I'm getting interested in the other members' bands. I'm wondering which album of The Flower Kings to pick first. I tried Unfold the Future, and I find some of the melodies and backgrounds strong as hell but at times they get a little too King-Crimson-ish for my taste.

Adam & Eve is my favourite, plus it has Gildenlow :)

It's a decent album, but many TFK fans would place it fairly low in their album rankings.

Most people would probably consider Space Revolver or Stardust We Are to be their best, or possibly Flower Power.

I started off with Flower Power and Stardust We Are.

Do NOT getThe Rainmaker, Adam and Eve or The Sum of No Evil until you have most or all of the others.

You pretty much cannot go wrong with any of the others:

Flower Power (where I started)
Paradox Hotel
Space Revolver
Retropolis
Stardust We Are
Back in the World of Adventures

Unfold the Future is great, too, but it is a bit fusion-y at times, which is maybe why you are not digging it at first.  It is not as blatantly symphonic proggy from start to finish as many of the others.
