1- Kevin Moore made DT more progressive with his style. Jordan Rudess made DT metal-ish. I don't like his toys.  :yeahright

2- Some of FII demos are better than studio works. You Or Me > You Not for example.

3- Unfortunately, DT becomes mainstream band which is not cool. (I don't actually like)  :P

Gentle Giant - For being one of the most complex and inaccessible prog bands of the 70s, they're music is funky as hell and great to dance to.

I agree. And glad to find another Gentle Giant fan on these forums.    :D

Yes - 90125 is my favorite album followed by Talk.  I don't really dig the older stuff.

ELP - Even though Keith Emerson was the mastermind, primary creative force and visionary behind the band's music, his keyboard playing wasn't all that great.  From a purely technical standpoint, he might have been the weakest musician of the 3.  Emerson's ideas translated wonderfully to the big sound of the Hammond Organ, but some of his limitations became apparent when he moved to the piano.

 :omg: :omg: :omg:

I thought that was kind of common-knowledge.

To be fair the older DT is more progressive than metal and the newer DT is more metal than progressive so the point isn't without merit.

Ironic since he is probably the least metal of any of the current DT members.  I think it is more accurate to say that his presence has made them focus on chops even more, since they now have a keyboard player who can go note for note, shred for shred, with John Petrucci at the drop of a hat, and be happy doing it.

Besides, DT's alleged more metal stuff most likely stems from Portnoy's love for many modern metal bands.

Not to my knowledge, it isn't.  Keith Emerson, in his prime, was a beast on the piano.

But progressive doesn't mean metal. I mean it's not about metal music. What Kevin Moore kept in his mind made DT so complex, so melodic, so new. That's what progressive means for me.

I don't really think that was down to Kevin, considering the fact that he left and created projects at the complete opposite end of the spectrum from prog, and the modern "metal" DT is presumably down to MP.

Yes, it's Kevin's way to make his own works. But in DT, it's up to all to create progressive sound. I didn't mean it's all progressive because of just Kevin Moore but again in 90's his style made DT progressive. Now DT is becoming more metal-ish because of MP's will and RoadRunner.

I think roadrunner is a symptom of them going more metal, not the other way around.

Maybe MP saw the other bands he's signed on with and it got him excited to do metal, but it's all MPs decision, I doubt RR is telling them to do anything.

I've always said that your influenced by the times.  Just like in the 80's Rush took on more keys and synth drums.

Definitely this.  Not to mention they get more backing from RoadRunner.

This is really offbeat. I really like what Rudess did on this song though I don't like his style.

Porcupine Tree: I vastly prefer live recordings of their music. While there's nothing wrong with their studio albums, there's something eerily energy-sucking about Steven Wilson's recording/producing style. It's like everything's just too perfect. Too sterile.

Within Temptation - As someone knows, Sharon Den Adel doesn't know anything about singing, I mean technically she didn't take any lessons but look how she is. She is almost better than many female singers that take singing lessons.

Death - Their last 3-4 albums are not Death metal.
How does this...wat?

They are a technical death metal band. What about The Sound of Perseverance wasn't tech death?
