DTF's Opinion on Lady Gaga
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:55:31 PM »
I'm just curious here. I love me some Lady Gaga, and I truly believe that she's the best thing to happen to pop music in a long time. Both of her albums are good; her music may not be intelligent or thoughtful, but it's just plain fun to listen to.

This being a prog board, though, I doubt my opinion will be shared by alot of people. I know Set is a fan, but...that's all I'm aware of. Any others?

Can't stand her personally.  Generic songs, stupid outfits, overplayed, overrated and unattractive.

I think she is good. I definitely listen every once in a while, and luckily her bigger hits haven't been worn out for me because I've somehow never heard her on the radio.

I like her. Her music is fun and has enough quirkiness to make some interesting listening, and she has a lot of character and charisma. When it comes to straightforward pop music, she is top of the pack really. :tup

I don't care for her very much, but she's better than your average pop star.

Hopefully me saying that she is musically talented won't start an all out war like it did in the first "controversial opinions" thread.  As long as Darkes doesn't show up, that is.  But she is a genuine talent, her songs are catchy, her style is definitely not straightforward, and she has an amazing voice.  And "Teeth" is a fucking groovy, awesome song..

I don't care for her music. If I'm going to listen to some pop, it'll probably be BSB.

I really like her (I voted for option #1).  Her music is catchy and original, but not annoying (except for Poker Face, I don't like that song... everything else is great), she's a great singer, and I'm into her whole performance art shtick.

She's definitely the best kick in the ass mainstream pop music has received since Madonna redefined herself in the 90s.  Just my opinion.

I put indifferent.  I think she's a talent but not my cup of tea.

I haven't heard enough of her stuff to make an educated decision, but what I have heard has been enjoyable enough. But that's not a result of her singing abilities. And I don't know how much she contributes to the writing of her music. So I don't know how much, or how little, to give her credit for.

Her persona is a bit off-putting, but not nearly as much as other artists. I do think it is a shame that any story I read/see about her is about her though, and not her music.

* edit: just did a little reading and it looks like she writes most of her songs, with collaborators, so I'll give her more credit for writing enjoyable songs.

Generic songs, stupid outfits, overplayed, overrated and unattractive.

What's funny is that except for the "overplayed" part, much of that applies to most power metal bands.

Last time I went to Atlantic City my friend who was driving decided to put on a new hot hits station and I was subjected to a song that made me want to kill myself and all those around me. Later I found out it was Alejandro by Lady Gaga. Listening to the station for 2 hours twice in one week was horrid, but that song was definitely the worst of it.

Indifferent. I don't really know enough to form an opinion one way or the other, but out of what I've heard I'm kinda 50-50. There are some really great melodies there, but there's also some stuff that bugs the shit out of me.

Same here. And, oddly enough, I don't really like Telephone. If Beyonce wasn't on it I don't think it would be as popular as it is.

Pretty similar to my experience every time I'm in a car with some partiers who like top-40 pop music.

I see her more as a reinforcement of everything that could have gone wrong with Pop.

Indifferent -- I don't mind her at all, and I find her better than most pop acts these days. I definitely respect her, but her music just isn't my thing. Nice to see some openmindedness from you guys though :tup
