Recommend me some Spock's Beard Please!
« on: August 12, 2010, 10:41:58 AM »
I really want to get some Spock's Beard albums.  Everything I have heard of them sounds great to me.  I am a big Transatlantic fan.  What Spock's Beard albums should I be buying.

Give me a ranking of top 5 if you could.  Thanks DTF!

I don't have any post Neal stuff yet, but I would start with The Kindness of Strangers, followe by The Light, V, and Snow.  TBH, my copies of Beware of Darkness, and Day for Night were lost 7 years ago, and I haven't gotten around to replacing them, so I don't remember where I'd rank them, but TKoS has always been my favorite Spocks Beard album - and even Snow is good so if that's the only SB album you saw at a store, it would make a decent SB beginning.

There you go. It doesn't matter. :hat

Why don't you use the search? Questions like these come up every few months (which is, btw, a good reason to have some kind of alphabetical list of band threads).

I actually did use the search under this forum, and nothing showed up.  So thus the post.

The Light should be your first album. Then move onto V, then Snow, then the rest of the albums with Neal. Leave the last four albums for some other days, but those are great as well, just not as accessible.

The Light is a good place to start as it is got the whole thing rolling.  Lots of people love V and will recommend that, although I don't think it is one of their best.  As for the post-Morse era, I would say get one of them early, maybe Feel Euphoria simply because it was the first lacking Morse, and see what you think.

Snow, The Light, and Octane are probably my favourites.  Octane is a tough one, though, I replace some of the latter tracks with ones from the bonus disc of the special edition, which makes a great album out of an otherwise good album.

The Light is probably the best place to start.

I think V and The Kindness Of Strangers are their most accessible.

Snow and V are amazing. I still need to explore SB more.

Wow, you're right. Sorry. That sucks...

With Neal: The Light, V
Without Neal: X (you might wanna get the version with the track "Their Names Escape Me")

Really? I just bumped up a Spock's Beard thread here on the 1st page... I think there's another "recommendation" thread a couple pages back too, but we can never have enough pages about SB/Neal! Also, please check out my Spock's Beard survivor in the Polls/Survivor forum!  :hat

I thought that was a special edition only for people who purchased their album pre-production?  I guess there might be a few copies floating around, but I thought these were extremely limited and hard to come by.

OP: I've just recently started getting into Spock's Beard, and I'm liking them a lot so far!

V took no time at all to grab me, and probably remains my favorite so far.  The Light and Snow are great as well, and the other Morse-era albums are good too, although I haven't listened to them as much.

Feel Euphoria is the only post-Morse album I've heard, and I think it's excellent.  Still trying to get my hands on X.

Get The Light.  I have V and Snow as well, those are places to go next.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Thanks everyone.  I bought Day for Night because I was  able to find a brand new copy on amazon for 3 bucks.  YES!!!  I don't really need an accessible album to get into them as I'm pretty sure I will love them as I'm a huge TA fan.  I just wanna know what would be their best material so I can start with that.

Heh, well, you bought what is easily the worst studio album from the Neal Morse era, so there's nowhere to go but up from this point!  Hope you enjoy the disc. :coolio

The Kindness of Strangers was my first album... the first half of it will hold your ears down and force sweet, sweet loving on them until they start coming down with Stockholm Syndrome, and the second half ain't too shabby either

I think V is probably the best place to start, but you already got started, so it's moot.

Agree, Day for Night is one of the weaker Morse-era efforts, but still quite enjoyable nonetheless.

If you're a huge TA fan just getting into Spock's Beard, maybe it's worthwhile to also check into The Flower Kings?

I personally prefer both SB and TFK over TA in general.

Ok, so today I bought Snow, V, and Feel Euphoria all for under 10 bucks total!!!  Can't wait to get all of them.

My friend has shown me the flower kings, I am not as grabbed by their music.  (I tend to like Neal's music more than Roine's.)  I do want to get into them though, and also beardfish.
