« on: August 06, 2010, 01:49:43 PM »
Anybody seen any of those? Are they good?

I'm really interested in watching DSOT and Face Value.
EDIT: OMFG, they have a Making Of of A Night At The Opera :eek

I've seen a couple of them and they're great. I have a few on DVD and a few on DivX. There's also a few out on YouTube.

I have:

The Who -Who's Next
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
Judas Priest - British Steel
Metallica - The Black Album
Motörhead - Ace Of Spades
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon
Queen - A Night At The Opera
U2 - The Joshua Tree
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
Meatloaf -Bat Out Of Hell
Steely Dan - Aja

Really informative stuff if you're interested in a certain band or album. There's video clips, live stuff, and interviews with band members, producers, and staff members. Highly recommended.

Rumbo, I've seen most of them and they are great.  Can't wait for September when Rush's 2112 and Moving Pictures comes out.

Still don't have the Rumours one, but I've heard great things about that one as well.

Excellent series. Made me appreciate a lot of albums I'd normally have no interest in.

Indeed it was. Considering how serious these documentaries are, it's sad that they couldn't get John Deacon. Although I don't blame the producers. After that tribute concert for Freddie Mercury and AIDS, he shunned himself (apparently for good) from the public eye. But yeah, I loved this one as well.

The DSOTM was the first one I saw and it's really cool.

Suprised there's no Beatles or Stones one available, and not that I'm complaining, but why is Rush the only one with 2 ones coming out?

I think it's all dependent on artist availability. Nobody wants to see an Abbey Road documentary without at least Paul McCartney.

Only one I own is the Number of the Beast one. I have seen most of the original run episodes from ten years ago. Haven't seen any of the ones being released lately. Looking forward to checking'em out though.

How is the Maiden one? I want to pick it up, but I'm sceptical. Is there more information than the average fan already knows?

Its good. At the time it was really eye-opening, but if you have their biography book and early days DVD, you will find most of the stuff is covered. The stuff I like is when the producers are in the studio and dropping down tracks and listening to little odds and ends. Martin has a little time with this stuff on the NotB episode. If you can find it cheap enough, I say grab it. Its a nice addition, especially if you collect the whole series.

The documentaries depend so much on the artists' ability to speak coherently. The Metallica one wasn't that good I thought, honestly, they just don't have much to say. In general, it seems.
