Just finished watching the legendary flamenco guitarist masters John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia and Larry Coryell filmed in 1979 at the Royal Albert Hall. It was available as an instant downloand on Netflix.

Even by today's standards they are so impressive. I highly recommend checking it out - especially if you're into guitar.

I have the San Fran recording of McLaughlin, De Lucia and Dimeola. Never saw a video though, sad they don't have one of the same performance. Ah well, I'll check out the one you suggest.

It's awesome when Di Meola is in the mix. He's such a monster player.

Is this jazz playing? Or more Flamenco playing?

Sweet.

You know, I take that back. There are some jazz undertones here and there. But it's predominantly flamenco, especially the crazy fast soloing.

Watching it now. Some good, some bad. On the plus side, De Lucia is basically a god and seeing him play with McLaughlin is amazing. On the bad side, I miss Dimeola and wish he was there instead of the other guy who isn't bad, but isn't nearly as stand out. Also, the performance of Mediterrainian Sundance wasn't NEARLY as amazing as the San Fran recording, which is what I'm used to. But it's still great so far.

The last song before the encore and the encore were the standouts, I think. At first I thought Coryell was the weak link but then realized he was incorporating bluesy sounding stuff in with the flamenco and I thought that was pretty cool. Yeah, de Lucia is freaking incredible. I love how he picks every note so clearly with those fingernails. Unbelievably fast too. But I hear what you're saying about missing Di Meola.

I've got that San Francisco recording too and I like it a lot, but I love Larry Coryell"s Spaces album (with McLaughlin, Corea, Cobham and Miroslav Vitous)

I've got several of Coryell's albums (Spaces Revisited, Eleventh House, The Restful Mind, Live from Baja). I always have an eye out for his stuff.

I'm sure he's a fine guitarist, but he didn't seem to add that magic that Al did. DeMiola, McLaughlin and De Lucia are just a godly trio.
