You got the wrong album.  Born to Run is his best album, and, in fact, one of the best albums in existence.  Listen to "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland."

for me:

Pretty much all the 'classic' metal bands: Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Anthrax, etc.

Oh, also a big one... Queensryche.  Not that I can't believe anyone would like their music, but their being praised as anything close to revolutionary, or anything new or different has always baffled me.

Mastodon - Vocals shitty enough to the point that I can't believe the masses have accepted them.
Fates Warning - not particularly bad, just plain boring and nothing special about them.
U2 - Again, just plain boring.
Nirvana - The sloppiest band that ever made it big, ever. Kurt was a mediocre lyricist, a bad guitar player, and a horrible songwriter. Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains were proof that grunge can be done right and well, but Nirvana was easily the most successful grunge band. That is something I will never "get".
The Who - I have no real reason for not getting them, I just flat out have never liked a single Who song I've heard.

You have to understand that the reason their music doesn't really sound revolutionary anymore now is because there are so many newer bands that were influenced by them.  They created something new and unique for the time.

Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains were proof that grunge can be done right and well, but Nirvana was easily the most successful grunge band. That is something I will never "get".
Easily the most successful in what sense? Cobain was a very (overly) dramatic figure, so he was an obvious choice for the media darling from grunge (as much as he hated that fact himself). But the only album of theirs that actually sold really well was Nevermind, and Ten has consistently outsold it since release. And I've heard many people say that even in their heyday, outside of the world of MTV and music mags, most people just saw them as an okay rock band, except for maybe Teen Spirit. It might seem like it today, since their status within rock music has been overemphasised to hell due to Cobain's suicide (again, a phenomenon largely created by the media), but that aside, I really don't think Nirvana had such an overwhelming edge over the other bands in the genre.

Pain of Salvation, although Remedy Lane is good.  I can't seem to enjoy half the crap on Road Salt One though.

Transatlantic, slowly warming up to the Whirlwind though.  It just seems like a daunting task to listen to it.

I really don't know what to say to this.  The Who was the ORIGINAL voice of teenage angst.  They paved the way for so many others to honestly express their aggression against the system, for they were the originals.  I am not saying you have to love there music, but for gods sake, respect them.  They INVENTED the concept of destroying instruments on stage!!!

I was shocked before as well. I thought PoS had a pretty accessible sound.
