I'll write up a point by point guide of what I don't like about the Beatles just to be specific though. Can't right now though as I'm in work.

Nevermind the fact that it has nothing to do with anything. I don't think nor have I ever said either one of those things, and neither one is a reason to not like a band. It's like it's some prerecorded message that immediately gets spouted out the second someone mentions the band.

Once again, never said they were the definitive inspiration for all music, but their influence is pretty damn clear in a lot of bands. Transatlantic/Flower Kings/Spock's Beard? Yeah, it's there. And influence or not, the music shares enough in common with a lot of other bands, I simply don't see what about them specifically warrants an 'awful' label while those other bands are enjoyed.

There was a time when I hated the Beatles so much I couldn't even stand to hear a single note. But I dated a guy for 7 years that was obsessed with them, so then I was exposed to them constantly. At first it was pure torture. But then one day something clicked. Actually it was Fool on the Hill that finally pulled me in. The melody is just so beautiful. Next thing I knew I was in love with them.

Same exact thing happened to me with Tori Amos. Same guy - he loved her and I HATED her. After we broke up she became my favorite artist of all time and still is to this day.

Shit happens that way sometimes.

Definately RUSH. I own Snakes & Arrows and Moving Pictures. I think they're pretty good, but definately not amazing. If anyone has a Rush recommendation I'll give it a shot.

Also, Rolling Stones. I dig the style and feel, but the songs bore me. Same goes for The Doors. I'm glad Led Zeppelin finally clicked, great music.
