Random Portnoy sighting @ Mayhem last night
« on: July 28, 2010, 04:23:03 AM »
So, I went to the Mayhem Festival last night in Mansfield, MA.  The top 4 headliners were Korn, Zombie, Lamb of God, and Five Finger Death Punch.  Tailgating in the lot, we hear FFDP on stage.  So we start heading into the show to catch Lamb of God.
As we are heading in, I swear I'm hearing the song Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold.
We walk into the arena to get our seats, and I look at the stage and see Mike Portnoy banging away on drums.  I nearly shit myself.

The best part was my friend (who doesn't really know DT) says after hearing one Avg 7 song, "man, that drummer kicks some serious ass"

It was a very unexpected surprise since Avg 7 was not on the original bill.
Dear Santa,

Serp, I'm pretty sure A7X was announced as playing in Mansfield a while back.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

It was just kind of cool because I was expecting Lamb of God, and got to see Portnoy instead.

I'm not a big Avg 7 guy, but they were much heavier live than their albums.  Mike also got a huge ovation from the crowd at the end of their set.

Bleh @ headliners

anybody else playing there or was that it? Cool to see Mike, but the headliners aren't particularly my thing.

2nd stage acts were :Atreyu, Norma Jean, In This Moment, 3 Inches of Blood, Hatebreed, Chimaira, Shadows Falls, and Winds of Plague.

Only Hatebreed really interested me of those acts, but we didn't get there in time to see them.  I'm not a huge Hatebreed fan, but they are very powerful live.

3 Inches are a good band.

Norma Jean I quite like, even if they are fairly generic metalcore.  And I've heard great things about Winds of Plague.

I don't know whether 3 Inches are joking with that singer or not, eh.  Though I've only heard 'Deadly Sinners', and only cos it was on a Tony Hawk game :lol

I'm a little confused why you deem them a joke.  There are a serious band, but at the same time they are paying tribute to old school metal like Priest and picking generic metal themes to sing about.  They are not trying to reinvent the wheel, they are just playing generic old school metal.  Check out Advance and Anguish.

The randomness of it is that I wasn't expecting to see them since they weren't on the original bill.
I walked in expecting Lamb of God and saw Portnoy instead.  Sheesh.  Should have never even bothered writing this thread......

You need to read the first post again, beeotch.  As he said, the "randomness" was that HE DIDN'T KNOW PORTNOY WAS GOING TO BE THERE!  So, to him, because he didn't know about Portnoy being there, it was cool.

DON'T MAKE ME COME OVA THERE AND HURT YOU, BEETCH.
