But suffice it to say that while I may have moved on from DT's style of playing, I still love the guys and quite honestly, JLB was a huge part of why I loved DT in the first place. So to have him sing on another album with a very different style to DT is a real treat.
Yeah, this is a huge part of why I like the JLB/MG albums.

If you want to hear what JLB is REALLY capable of, try Frameshift Unweaving the Rainbow. Fantastic album with James on vox.

Along those lines, his work on Babysteps is also great.  The arrogance he portrays in his character is great.

Who says we haven't listened to both :hat
(actually, I haven't listened to Babysteps, is that the Magna Carta thing or something else?)

(actually, I haven't listened to Babysteps, is that the Magna Carta thing or something else?)

Something else I believe (not sure what the Magna Carta thing is).  Babysteps is another Henning Pauly project:

Quote
Babysteps tells the story of Nick (Jody Ashworth, Trans Siberian Orchestra), a professional athlete, who finds himself in a wheelchair having to recover in a rehabilitation center. The struggle with his arrogant doctor (James LaBrie, Dream Theater) reaches its climax in a big fight. Matt (Matt Cash, Chain/Frameshift/Solo), another patient, tries to befriend Nick who doesn’t trust people anymore. Matt introduces his physician to Nick, Dr. Sizzla (Michael Sadler, SAGA), who gives him valuable advice on how to approach his situation and his doctor. Babysteps is the story of Nick’s journey on the way to recovery and the obstacles he has to overcome.

So you like Static Impulse but not Impermanent Resonance? That's interesting.

Well I'd personally say that SI is miles ahead of IR. They are definitely similar stylistically, but the quality of the songwriting isn't   even close. I'm not saying that IR is a bad album, in fact I do enjoy listening to it from time to time, but both SI and EOP are far superior in my opinion. I adore those two.

Fair enough.  I just gave IR a spin again and it's a great listen from beginning to end.  The same goes for EoP and SI.  JLB has been very consistent in his last 3 solo efforts.  The Mullmuzzler stuff was ok, but some of it just didn't do much for me.  EoP was a fantastic transition and it's been non stop ever since.

I'm not sure if i brought this up before, but I'm wondering about a song Labrie was on. Before ToT was released, there was a fake version of As I Am going around online. It was actually a pretty good song though, and was really Labrie singing. Anyone what song this was? Was it from his solo work?

I've not heard any fake version of ToT so can't be specific at all. But at the point ToT released, JLB only had the two Mullmuzzler albums out, so start with those. However, James has been involved with a lot of projects and done a lot of guest appearances so it might be difficult tracking down what you heard.

Hm aside from the obvious Elements of Persuasion being leaked as Octavarium, I can't remember any specifically.
The only other JLB song I recall making the rounds is Venice Burning from Mullmuzzler 2, but I don't care for those albums at all, so I'm not sure what songs would pass as DT.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Confronting The Devil could maaaaybe pass as a "badass" DT song. Maybe it was something off Frameshift, which came out around the same time period, as well? You won't waste your time if you listen to any of those Mullmuzzler albums or the Frameshift album, anyway, if you love James.

He also contributed to a project called Explorer's Club, which had releases in 1998 and 2002.  The Frameshift album he's on (while awesome) could hardly be confused with anything off of ToT.  :lol

Not sure about TOT, but I know Crucify was used as a fake 8VM around time of release.

I think Chad could be on the money with Explorers Club, came out the same time as TOT didn't it?

Wasn't he on some Leonardo album too?  I've never heard it though.

Now that I think about it, the Mullmuzzler one I'm thinking of was posted a lot later than Octavarium, because I remember Jordan messaging me to ask me what song it was, and I had to search through JLB's side projects to figure it out. :lol And I remember they hadn't posted the whole song, they'd cut several minutes off the start of the song, which may have been a softer bit.

I'm sure whatever song it is, this page has it covered between the last few posts.

Yeah, but as I understand, this came out before ToT was released, so back then it was all up in the air.

Seriously. Still on regular rotation. I still say this beats DT12 by miles and miles.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I remarked that I'd get exicted about it when it was confirmed to be nothing like the I Will Not Break EP. :lol
