where was this 5 years ago?..I'd love to be excited, but with no obviously Mike Baker (RIP), their newest album just not doing a ton for me, and it being nowhere near me, frankly only gives me a morsel of optimism in the hope they'll play at ProgPower or even do a show in Chicago some day.

That being said, it better be taped.

Nick, you taping?

I wonder how they'll construct the setlist.

I haven't gotten Digital Ghosts but I've been a casual fan since the late 90's. This is very cool news.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Great news. Too bad it is happening after Mike passed away. I got the feeling he would be an awesome front man, he seemed like a very cool, positive guy who could really be entertaining as a performer on top of being an awesome singer.

So let me get this straight:

-These guys are based in the US, specifically PA.
-They have been around for a while, and at some point were notable enough for someone to ask MP what he thought about them in an interview in the 90s, to which he replied that they needed to tour and that's what separated DT (the "men") from "the boys."
-This is their first ever US show, implying that they have never really toured here so more people could hear about them.
-These people are idiots?

Tours require up front capital for smaller acts.  A record company isn't going to throw out a bunch of money for a tour unless they know it can succeed.

Which leads to the "opening act" scenario.  The band members probably also have day jobs - lots of bands, particularly prog bands - support themselves / their family by working jobs like everyone else - which makes touring nearly impossible.  Enchant hasn't toured for that reason, they've just done an odd festival or so despite releasing seven studio albums and one live album/DVD.

There are probably other reasons they haven't toured, but I don't think that relagates them to being "idiots".

I'm sure Inside Out or Magna Carta or whoever their label is could've put them on some kind of opening act tour if they wanted to/were a bit more serious.  They probably could've opened for DT in the 90s.  I mean, they should at least feel like they've missed out on some kind of potential, considering their first US show is apparently in a restaurant after ten or more years of existance.

They have said in the past that DT is the one band they would have dropped everything for and toured with, so that was never offered to them. You're being way too hard on the band. They are probably doing the right thing focusing on their day jobs and families considering most bands who try to hit big don't make it. They are serious about their music, them not touring does not mean otherwise, it just means they don't have the time or money to tour.

That's like a metal band filled with 18-year-olds saying that Metallica are the only band they'll drop everything for and tour with.  Who knows where they'd be now if they pushed themselves a bit in the 90s?  Am I being too hard on the band?  Maybe, but you can't deny thats its kind of silly that they've never tried to promote themselves by touring, let alone playing freaking local gigs until just now.

Even if they did not want to be touring musicians, you'd think they would've at least played a couple of local clubs by now. Very strange...but a great band nonetheless.

I can think of quite a number of bands who have no money to support themselves by do local shows. Hell, I have been in many of them.

they were offered to play at Nearfest in Bethlehem, PA in 2000, and the band turned it down.

Previously they were a 100% studio band. I don't see why that makes them a bad band.

Well my opinion of them musically (just okay, nothing mindblowing, but nothing that blows either) has nothing to do with their live habits, but it just blows my mind how a band can say how much their music means to them but neglect to even play small local shows until at least ten years after their birth and two years after their original lead singer died.  Hell 3 can barely keep a record label behind them and they manage to stay alive doing small local shows.  And that thing about turning down NEARfest is probably the most  -worthy move for a young unknown prog band.

I'd love to check these guys out sometime. Can't find any of their albums used, and don't want to take a chance spending a bunch of dough.

No problems at all with them not being a touring band. Bands DO NOT make it, and slaving it out on the road in shitty clubs is a young man's game. I would have expected them to do a few one offs in the past decade, but no biggie. Perhaps Nick can ask them why they haven't at least done that much.

Whatever your great news is, congrats, Nick.
