I have twelve more bands on my list to check out before I reach Opeth, so in no more than twelve days will I check them out. Happy?

You need to move Opeth up that list.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Yes but I have a slew of youtube links already posted for everyone  :|
Basically imagine Iron Maiden fused with Thin Lizzy and Judas Priest and one of the best singers ever and you have Slough Feg. But they do have a modern sound to them, at least they do to me. Hardworlder is one of my favorite albums ever, but Traveler is the popular starting album.

My friend has made me listen to him/them a couple times. I know I liked what I heard though.

Slough Feg is much better when you listen to full albums imo
That's not to say their individual songs aren't awesome, but you get my point!

They shortened it to "Slough Feg" in 2005. I still like the full name though, I think its badass  :metal

Plus they have a song named "Sea Wolf" :P

There are some great recommendations here already, especially Redemption and Nevermore.

It would be nice if the OP came back and gave us more direction, but since he said he wanted workout music, anything with Ripper Owens is great for that - but I realize he's not everyone's cup of tea.

Erring on the side of caution, I'd recommend Avantasia, Circle II Circle, Circus Maximus, Dominici, Evergrey, Silent Force, Threshold, Vanishing Point, and Wuthering Heights - listed in alphabetical order.

As far as what I consider good workout/lifting music, I would go Blind Guardian, Charred Walls of the Damned/Ripper Owens fronted bands, Children of Bodom, Gojira, Iced Earth, Orphaned Land, Strapping Young Lad, and Therion; but with those bands the vocals might be a little to intense for you.

I would really sugest Nocturnal Rites... awesome heavy fast paced power metal band with awesome clean vocals.

I think I may have to check our Nevermore after reading this.

'The Inner Circle' would like to have a word with you. It's a matter of taste I think. I still prefer 'Recreation Day', but 'The Inner Circle' is a remarkable album, very operatic and grand. It showed a lot of promise for Evergrey's future releases, which they by far and large didn't live up to.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

The Inner Circle was an amazing album, but it just didn't click for me like Recreation Day.  Inner Circle had quite a few plodding songs that really went nowhere IMO, Recreation Day was one amazing song after another, with some exceptional guitar solos.

A Touch of Blessing is in my top 3 Evergrey songs though.

I'm going to recommend MY band ;D I KNOW it's tacky guys, but hey, that's.....showbiz.

We're called Lobotomi and we are a progressive metal band! Here is our myspace: www.myspace.com/lobotomitheband

Our songs have growls in them, but are used moderately(IMO). Check out the song Crawlspace:)

In addition...Symphony X sounds like somethong that might fit!

You know what, I've never ever seen Freak Kitchen mentioned on these forums. I'm sure this post will get lost amid the plethora of links and band names in this thread, but maybe somebody will see it, click this link, and discover a treat. They've got a Racer X / Extreme vibe going on, and a guitarist who could almost be Vai when he solos.  :metal

Even though they only had 1 full album,  you should try Dark New Day.
