My good friend's band is playing at the Bowery Poetry Club July 24th and Arlene's Grocery August 13th (Friday the 13th omg). I dunno how to describe them, they're definitely funky (their Facebook says "progressive math funk" :lol) and a lot of fun. They've got a typical setup plus a little horn section.

I want to spread the word to get a crowd there (I know for at least one show the band had to put down a deposit that they will lose if they don't get a certain amount of people).

Oh yeah, and I will be there, which should be enough of a selling point :eyebrows:

Based on the name, I guess they're fans of George Carlin?

Anyway... 7/24 is the night of Rush at Jones Beach, but I don't think I've got anything going on August 13th.  I'll definitely try to make it out.

That is just so wrong. Bands have to put up deposits to be able to play?

Yeah, I know  :-\... I guess it depends on the venue. But I think they will be able to get fifty or whatever the number is.

Yeah, Angel is a huge Carlin fan/obsessor.

They are definitely super interesting, especially since they brought in the horns (I love their version of Immigrant Song  :metal... and Angel just has an awesome voice.. we sang karaoke together last night  :lol). I've only seen this incarnation of the band live once so I'm really looking forward to it.

I would love to see y'all in August. I'll definitely bump the thread when the time comes :)

i was just at Bowery club for Woods of Ypres, Vektor and Mayrtd.

I had originally planned on bringing my camera, but I totally forgot.  I was kind of in a haze the entire night... I had the most ridiculous week and was totally exhausted... my initial plan was to come out to drink, relax and be social... but after one beer I was ready for bed.  Getting old sucks!  :/

Nah, I know what you mean, especially when you still have to journey home. I had my camera and I thought about it but forgot, then you had to get out of there so oh well, next time. Are any of you people coming back to the city for any shows anytime soon? I'm so out of the loop with that stuff.
