Which Songs Would You Make B-Sides?
« on: June 29, 2010, 12:50:32 PM »
Some discussion here got me thinking, if you could drop a song or two from any DT album to improve it, what would it/they be?

Well I'll start from ToT, since the earlier albums either DID have B sides or didn't need them.

I'd drop Endless Sacrifice as a B-Side.
I'd drop Never Enough, Panick Attack and Prophets of War as b-sides.
Ummmm. More I'm sure.

The ones that Adami mentioned, along with The Answer Lies Within.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I agree with the person in the Album Length thread in that I've never listened to a DT album and wished that it had less music on it.

If one were to drop some songs, I could see Never Enough, but Panic Attack?

I was thinking this and A Rite of Passage.
I was also expecting all of ToT to get dropped. :lol Let's see how long it takes for that to happen.

You Not Me
Hollow Years
Burning My Soul

As I Am

The Answer Lies Within
These Walls
Panic Attack
Never Enough
Sacrificed Sons

Constant Motion
The Dark Eternal Night

A Rite of Passage
and replace "Wither" with either of the Rick Astley mash-ups.

Hmm... May have to merge Octavarium and Systematic Chaos into one album... "Octamatic Chaotivarium"  :D

Dropping a AA suite song doesn't seem very logical.

Or has this just become "name the songs you don't like from each album"?

Yeah, it kind of did. I'll go back and fix that. :)

Quoted for emphasis.

I would have probably also let Wither be a B-SIde or cd extra or something.  It just...I dont know, it doesn't add to the album much I guess.

In my opinion wouldn't make sense since it's a completely different kind of song, but Raise The Knife instead of New Millenium is the great idea. Similar length, and I think New Millenium is neither a good song nor does it fit the album too well.

Can't think of anything else. Quality is subjective, and there's no song where I think that it doesn't fit into the album or that it obviously isn't good enough. A Rite of Passage may be nothing special but an album with four >10 minute songs and one short one isn't a good idea (unless the album is called Morningrise).

I'm just trading out a song that sucks for a song that rocks. It doesn't matter what kind of song it is. :tard

Haven't yet got the FII Demos (though I've been planning to for like two years :\ ), but I guess you can find something shorter to replace it. Though still, I think it serves as a good "rocking" song on the album - same reason why I wouldn't get rid of A Rite of Passage.

I did the same.

Leapt straight into some You Or Me. Lush.

I'd rejig Falling Into Infinity.

1. Raise the Knife
2. Cover My Eyes
3. Peruvian Skies
4. Hollow Years
5. Hell's Kitchen
6. Lines in the Sand
7. New Millennium
8. You Or Me
9. Speak to Me
10. Just Let Me Breathe
11. Trial of Tears

Which would be tacitly making Anna Lee, Take Away My Pain and Burning My Soul b-sides. Which I'd probably then constantly rave about how good they were and how it's a crime they didn't make it onto the album proper.

I can't see dropping either As I Am or AROP. Both are the only shorter metal songs on their respective cd's. They need some kind of single now a days, they serve their purpose and neither are of them are terrible.

I'll focus on the new material.  First and foremost... Constant Motion.  Forsaken was not a bad song, but it really had no place in Systematic Chaos.  A Rite of Passage I didn't like, there was just nothing special about anything of it.

Wither. As much as I love it, I don't feel like it belongs on the album.

Actually, I got an idea some time ago that they could record a "full" version of Raw Dog (more polished and with vocals), add some additional content like A Nightmare to Remember and A Rite of Passage live and release it as an EP (meaning on CD as well), I'd really like that myself.
