Fusari helped create the moniker Gaga, after the Queen song "Radio Ga Ga". Germanotta was in the process of trying to come up with a stage name when she received a text message from Fusari that read "Lady Gaga."[22] He explained,

"Every day, when Stef came to the studio, instead of saying hello, I would start singing 'Radio Ga Ga'. That was her entrance song. [Lady Gaga] was actually a glitch; I typed 'Radio Ga Ga' in a text and it did an autocorrect so somehow 'Radio' got changed to 'Lady'. She texted me back, "That's it." After that day, she was Lady Gaga. She’s like, "Don’t ever call me Stefani again."[22]

Lady Gaga: because naming yourself after a Queen song makes your music sound better.

GOOD POP
Does not compute

OK POP
Does not compute

ABSOLUTE CRAP POP
All of it

FTFM

Yeah, this, though I don't consider artists like Michael Jackson to be pop anymore.

??? He is called the "King of Pop". How is he not pop?

I consider pop to be whatever plays on top-40 stations on the radio.  I've never heard a Michael Jackson song on a top-40 station.
How old are you 5? Man how the times have changed.

So wait, we're spelling it wrong and king is spelling it right? What is going on here? :lol -- BlobVanDam

Ke$ha: because using symbols as letters in naming yourself makes your music unlistenable.

(A friend of mine calls her Kay-Eee-Money-Ha... I also like Key-Dollar-Ha... it's about as bad as naming your child "Le-a"...)

Yeah, maybe not NOW, but back in the day, heck yes.

  Come on now, that's not what I meant and you know it.

I decided I liked her music way before I found that out.

:lol I know, because I knew Fluffy was being sarcastic.  Like I said, if I thought he was really serious about Lady Gaga's music being enhanced by her name coming from a Queen song, I would have been confused, not .

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Though I know SeaWolf didn't mean it that way, people have actually made that argument to me before. The combination of that and "She's a Juilliard trained musician, so she's automatically good" piss me off. Neither of those things are reflected in the music she has released to the public, so it's irrelevant.

If someone simply enjoys her music, then whatever. It's when people make her out to be more than just another pop star that I get annoyed.

To me, she isn't "just another pop star", she's a particularly interesting and talented pop star.

While I was being sarcastic towards SeaWolf, you're actually spot on, and I was kind of referring to this.

Lady Gaga seems to be a pop artist of that uber-popular, uber-undressing-herself kind that a lot of people who wouldn't normally listen to that kind of pop artist have found themselves liking, and her name, her music education, and her having written her songs are the three things they most often seem to use to try to justify the anomaly. All of which, however, seem to have made no difference on her music, which is just run-of-the-mill pop.

I mean, think of that video that people were throwing around a while back with her doing two songs on solo piano. A lot of people used it as further "see? She IS a real artist" evidence, which I thought was ironic, cos stripped down so much, it was even more obvious her songwriting was average as hell. Had that video been played to most people before she was a thing, they'd probably have just said, "well, she'll probably never go big, but good for her".

I don't really have any deeper reason or justification for liking her, it's just that her songs are catchy without being cheesy, so I like them.  It really is that simple.

See, and that's fine.
What we're talking about it people making her out to be this super important cultural icon, or one of the most important artists of our time. Because she's not. She's not doing anything new or innovative. If you like her songs, that's fine, but some people can't just leave it at that.
