How would you describe DT in 2 songs?
« on: June 19, 2010, 08:30:26 PM »
Well, I was in the car with my stepfather, and Train of Thought happened to be in the player (naturally it was on track four ... the stepfather-hate-song). We let the album play, and he posed an interest for the band. He asked me to put together a disk of 2 tracks that best describes what I like about DT. Keep in mind that since he has already heard TOT, I  want him to experience the kind of less-metal side of DT. Song Length doesn't matter.

I'm conflicted. I am leaning towards Blind Faith, To Live Forever, ACOS, UAGM, and similar bits, but I can't seem to narrow it down to two. Can I have some of your opinions? (And don't feel lmited to my song choices.)
Thanks, DTF.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Learning To Live.
This seems pretty good to me. Though it doesn't really represent the heavy side of DT that well.

Why would you want to show off their worst side?

Metropolis Pt.1 is a no-brainer. For the other one...The Root of All Evil, maybe? Or Fatal Tragedy? Too many good options.

Octavarium
ITPOE pt.1
Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

I think giving someone who's new to DT two of their signature epics would be somewhat of an overload. One epic is fine, but the second song should be significantly shorter if you're looking to win someone over.

Exactly. Unless it's someone who's a fan of long songs in general, I think there's no point giving anything really long, not to say two really long songs. That's why my choice was Home and Through Her Eyes, both represent two very contrasting sides of DT, but somehow work together and represent both the "shorter side" and the "epic side".

To emphasize what I like about DT, I'd give him Metropolis and Octavarium.  Basically Disc 3 of Score.

Through Her Eyes, Home. No better option.

Although I nearly hate Through Her Eyes I'd say my main reason to not use it is because if someone got into DT for liking that song alone they'd be disappointed that maybe seven of their songs sound anything like it whatsoever. But I still think you're cool anyway brah  :tup

short: Surrounded, About to Crash
mid: Metropolis, Learning to Live
long: ACOS, 8VM

any two songs listed, but both shouldn't be from the same category
