My dad got me started on my music interest when I was about 8 years old. He played me some Beatles and I instantly got hooked. So I plowed through his vinyl collection which contained artists such as:

The Beatles
Rolling Stones
The Who
Status Quo
Dire Straits
Zydar is my new hero.  I just laughed so hard I nearly shat.

My Dad took me to see School of Rock when I was 12, which got me into all the classic rock bands, especially The Eagles, Aerosmith, Skynyrd, and The Who.  From there it took me to Floyd, which wasn't really my parents' thing.

My Mom gave me Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf around the same time and I was absolutely blown away.  That album is actually a pretty good introduction to all the sweeping, epic qualities I love about prog.

Classic rock and some 'classic' prog, particularly Yes, Floyd, and King Crimson.

I dunno how I could forget DMB, my dad used to play them 24/7. I really like 'em but it's all he'd listen to at one point.  :D

Still does occasionally but I think their new music kind of put him off.

My dad mostly listened to 80's hit's and some glam rock(Disco music too, and I still like disco music).
Deff leppard
Bon jovi, and so on.
From there i looked for more 80's music, eventually discovered metal, and then PROG.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

My mom got me into Red Hot Chili Peppers, and my dad helped me get into The Beatles.

Those are the most notable that I still listen to.

My parents also introduced me to such bands as Aerosmith, Kiss, The Rolling Stones, etc.

Most of my earlier metal tastes (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, etc.) came from my uncle.

So I guess my parents gave me the rock background which helped me get interested in metal thanks to my uncle which in turn enabled me to get into other genres eventually leading to where I am today, in part thanks to Quadrochosis.
