Kenny G likes Opeth?!

"...‘Opeth’ played for 3 hours & my head was spinning afterwards. They were perfect. In a side note, I saw Jazz & sappy saxophonist, ‘Kenny G’ at the show. I never really cared for his music, but after seeing him at an ‘Opeth’ show…I still probably won’t be listening to his music. However, I don’t think him such a ‘dickweed’ any longer."

He probably has an appriciation for the technical side of their music, although he might be a headbanger deep down.  Lots of hard rock/metal musicians start out playing in a marching band, or classical piano.

Kenny G has always been cool in my book.  Plays a hell of a saxophone.  It's not really surprising a saxophone player liking a more technical style of music.  Sax players have great phrasing and impro skills. I've often picked up small licks from many different saxophone players that I like to try and emulate and include in my guitar lick library.

I don't know why people trash on Kenny G.  He's an excellent player, and his music is incredibly soothing.

Despite whatever level of notoriety he may have had prior to 1992 what really earned him household-name status was his cameo in Missing You Now by Michael Bolton. That placed an unfortunate stigma on him that has remained at least a little bit to this very day not so much that people remember his Bolton ties but moreso that people realize it's commonly accepted/expected to bag on him even if most have forgotten why and what started that was the Bolton collaboration.

That would be awesome, in my opinion. The addition of a saxophone would have added a new dimension to the Damnation album, and if Opeth can pull off a wacky, BTBAM-esque keyboard section like they did in The Lotus Eater I think the inclusion of a small sax section would play out just fine.

  Yes, because clearly if one musician attends another musician's concert, it must mean a guest spot is inevitable.

Anyhow, it would have been pretty interesting to be there.  I wonder if Akerfeldt was like, "ROROROROROR--oh, wow.  Hey.  Hey, guys.  Hold on just a minute.  Is that--?  Whoa, that's Kenny G down there in the pit.  This is kinda surreal.  And he has better hair than I do.  Um...hey, what song were we doing again?"

  So all these Opeth threads recently made me YouTube an Opeth song just now.  And this is really weird, but...well, this doesn't suck nearly as much as I recall them sucking.  In fact, I almost kinda like it.  I think something must be wrong with me.
