Favorite Transatlantic epic

Interesting poll in that we are talking about a band that has produced more epics than non-epics.  There may perhaps be some debate over whether a couple of the choices above quality or why something else wasn't on the list.  But while there are pretty standard, agreed-upon criteria for what may or may not make a song an "epic," when you get close to the edges, I think the lines become a bit blurry.  So while I recognize that this list may not be agreed on by everyone, it is what it is.  I'm perfectly fine for someone arguing that some other song should quality or that any of the above do not.  But, again, with the acknowledgement that there is not really a bright line to tell what is "in" and what is "out," I can easily justify everything that is on and off this list.

I usually go back and forth between Stranger in your Soul and Duel, but Duel has hands down one of the best choruses ever.

I can't really rank the other two, as one is a cover, and the other is more of a suite in the mode of Side 2 of Abbey Road than an epic.

Oh, is In Held ('Twas) in I a cover?  I'm not famliar with the original, and I thought I had heard a while back that it was "inspired by" a previous piece as opposed to being an outright cover.  If it's a cover, I don't even want it on the list.  I thought briefly about whether to exclude Suite Charlotte Pike.  But it is one song, and even if the unifying theme is more or less to pay tribute to Abbey Road, side 2, that's not a good reason to disqualify it from the list.

It´s a cover, and much better than the original IMO. Actually, it´s my favorite song on a Transatlantic album

IIRC, the original is supposed to be the first true "prog epic", however, I have only heard Transatlantic's version.

While I think The Whirlwind is one of the greatest prog releases of all time, I can't help but be underwhelmed by Stranger In Your Soul. It's still a good, maybe very good song, but The Whirlwind is just in a completely different league.

Duel With the Devil, easily.  One of my favorite songs ever; it's superb all the way through.

All of TA's other epics are excellent as well, but have their flaws.  For example, The Whirlwind drags quite a bit in the middle and later on.  Stranger In Your Soul seems to reprise itself a bit too much and has a few weaker sections that bring it down a bit.  All of the Above is a little "all over the place", but still has some brilliant parts.  At any rate, they're all very good, but for me DWTD is in a league of its own.

I want to say I remember reading that the original is by Procul Harum, though I'm not certain.  Haven't heard it, personally.

"In Held ('Twas) in I" was originally done by Procol Harem.  You can find it on youtube split into two parts if you are so inclined.  The TA version is very faithful to the original, and is better engineered than the Procol Harem version.

I honestly can't decide between Duel and The Whirlwind.  It's so hard to compare them because of The Whirlwind's length and newness compared to DwtD.
