Aha. Another SFAM mystery solved. (:eyebrows:)

A Change of Seasons. I would kill, rape, pillage, smile cannon, etc, to hear that song live, as it is my favourite track of all time.
And this so much.

The Dance of Eternity

Saw that on PN09 and the power was cut several times, during which MP did a drum solo while they fix'd it!

What? I like the song. It's the one song (besides The Best of Times) that they haven't played. Plus Mike is not currently in the band and Jordan has said he enjoys playing it. I'm thinking chances of hearing it are slightly higher then they were last week...not by much, but ya never know.

Plus I know that people like Bosk would likely claw their eyeballs out in frustration and that would make me giggle a little :P

and freakin Metropolis dammit

twice ive seen 'em and the first time i almost got up and walked away when they encored it with The C of T. (mind u i still havent really got into that song)
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Which part comes off as cheesy? The lyrics, melody, or composition? I could comprehend if it's the lyrics, it threw me off at first. But after a while I got over the fact that John does not know how to trust people. That's ok. lol

Mike was the main person involved in the set lists every night, and was pretty involved in the process even choosing songs based on the last time they played in a city.

So what now? Do you think they will just play a standard set list, or will they continue to switch songs from night to night?

I think they will continue to mix it up.  It's become their trademark.

I kind of hope there will be a little more group input as to what songs go on the master list.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I can't imagine DT not mixing up the sets. That is one of the main things their fans love, they almost almost get new stuff. I never understood why Mike was the only one to make the set lists, it's not like it is that difficult of a task.

They'll mix it up guaranteed. James said he got tired of the same set on the maiden tour

Mike wasn't doing such a great job the past few tours. Lots of repeating, a lack of interesting surprises and so forth.

I really hope the band looks at this change as a reason to do things that are fresh and exciting.

Maybe it's just me, but I really think that either Pull Me Under, Metropolis, or Learning to Live need to be played during the encore of every show.

You can't always have interesting surprises (assuming you mean something like Mikael from Opeth singing on Repentance). They did repeat Misunderstood last year and the year before (same venue), but I also saw the first ever live rendition of PoW, so that was an interesting surprise.

Maybe it's just me, but I really think that either Pull Me Under, Metropolis, or Learning to Live need to be played during the encore of every show.

Metropolis for sure...but holy crap it'll be so weird to see a different drummer on what I consider the quintessential DT song. Such an adjustment.

What? I like the song. It's the one song (besides The Best of Times) that they haven't played.
They also haven't played The Shattered Fortress or Don't Look Past Me.

And from what we've heard, most of the rest of the band doesn't like SDV any more than MP did, so I still doubt we will get that.  Or any of the other ones they haven't played.

No, I meant more like including Anna Lee, or Take Away My Pain, or Cover My Eyes, or an acoustic set. Just stuff they stopped doing.

That's true, but it's not like they have to do that, either. But yeah, it did feel like Mike was slacking from his usual charismatic way of putting a tour together.
