Yeah, in all seriousness... I did know he was on drugs, I figured he used to smoke weed, and hasj. But I didn't know it was as bad as taking a line during the keyboard solo's.
And that up until 2000!
No wonder he was nearly dead at the end of the LSFNY show. He was either totally smashed on alcohol and drugs, or totally smashed because he wasn't getting any of those.

Or cause playing drums they way he does for 3.5 hours will make anyone feel like they're about to die.

Yeah I understand, especially two shows a day, in a 35 degrees Celsius room.

But...

Then you'd feel like you're dying, Mike was nearly taken to a hospital that night.
You can't deny that taking drugs and alcohol like he did, wouldn't make the situation worse right?

I think he was off drugs and alcohol by the time the LSFNY show came around.  Didn't he just get his 10 year thing from AA?  That would mean he had been clean and sober for a while by the time the LSFNY show happened.

Wasn't it in 2000? Meaning he might not have been sober yet, or had just gotten clean.

I'm not so sure about that -- because in the book Lifting Shadows, Rich Wilson puts the discussion of Mike's decision to get sober in the Six Degrees chapter.

EDIT: just looked up Portnoy's birthday, which is April 20th, and the night on which he had his last drink.  So I guess he would have been sober by LSFNY since it was recorded in August of 2000.  A little confused then on Rich Wilson's time-line.  Maybe he discussed it out of sequence for the sake of a better narrative?
