I just rediscovered Hell's Kitchen
« on: May 22, 2010, 09:52:06 PM »
I haven't been listening to DT regularly for a while, but something possessed me to put on Hell's Kitchen, a song I probably haven't listened to in at least a year. Jesus christ what an amazing instrumental piece; I think it might actually be my favorite DT instrumental, overtaking Erotomania.

Appreciating!

I only ever listen to Lines in the Sand with Hell's Kitchen as an into.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

By far the best DT instrumental.
"In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad idea."

It's my third favorite instrumental, beaten only by Eve and Stream of Consciousness. However sometimes it can top both songs because of the great amounts of majesty (Pun intended) embodied in that song. It really makes one's imagination flow.

Easily my favorite instrumental, tied for the best track on FII.

This song proves that DT can write short, concise pieces, but still make them incredibly emotional, and even epic-sounding (even if it was originally intended as part of BMS).  Great piece in their repertoire, it's a shame they never play it live.

I'm actually glad they don't play it live. You know they'd "extend" it with a continuum solo and a trade off jp/jr shred fest.

My favourite DT instrumental and definitely the best decision Kevin Shirley made regarding FII.

My favorite DT instrumental as well.  According to my listening tracking software, I've listedned to that song 23 more times than the rest of the album - and I only listen to albums in their entirety, so I did a lot of relistening immediately after hearing it.

And the String Tribute version of it is all kinds of awesome as well.

ok it's and awesome awesome song indeed.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

Actually just listened to Falling Into Infinity last night, have only heard it like 2 times before, and that was like a year ago.
Hells Kitchen is a good track, overall i don't really like the album that much.
Many songs that feels like B-sides imo. :/

Great song, the last two minutes are simply amazing!
"Once he had forests and mountains that were only his - listening to him. Once he would run through the summer days catching memories for ages to come. Now he is dressing this naked floor with his flesh and blood, and time passes by. His trade of pain might just have lead him to deal with consequence for some change as time passes by"

hell's kitchen is one bright point which make FII worth buying, especially taking into account the brilliant and smooth transition into lines in the sand.

One of the great decisioins made by Shirley during FII. This doesn't fit in Burning my Soul, at all. Its potential as just 1 song is incredible, and it's to the day one of Dream Theater's best instrumentals.

They should play this as an instrumental more often. It is one of my favorite DT songs, period.
