Branching out musically.
« on: May 18, 2010, 04:07:40 PM »
I've always been a music lover and I'm not afraid to try most any style of music.  My brother turned my on to a guy named Craig D'Andrea. Check him out and give me your feedback.

I liked it right away.  Very cool tones and syncapations.   :tup

I've been a fan of Craig D' Andrea for some, he is awesome, this is the song that really turned me onto him.

Canada Sad - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYwp43pkFvc

If you like him check out Antoine Dufour, he is my favorite, and personally I think he is untouchable in his finger picking technique from the Candyrat record guys:

Thanks Reap.  My brother turned me on to that record website. I've been youtubing it this whole week.

Yeah, I've been a fan of Candyrat for a long, long time.

Some more to check out:

Erik Mongrain:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iRw0uKamN4 - The Silent Fool (My Favorite from him)

Peter Ciluzzi (his stuff is a little more dark):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBZbO5MfnIk - Nocturne (My Favorite from him)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J-nUhF8hJw - Abyssal

Can't leave out Kaki King even though she isn't on Candyrat, her first two albums are 98% acoustic driven, her sound is pretty different now:

Wanna branch out? Listen to ska/ska punk/anything ska. Not many people on this forum are into it but it's something that everyone around here in California is into. I'm in a ska band myself. :)

Start out with Sublime of course, and move on from there. Btw a ska song that isn't Sublime that I'm currently obsessed with is Lay Me Down by The Dirty Heads. Give it a listen dude!

Used to be a big ska fan when I was in High School, just kinda grew away from it but I had a ton of fun going to shows almost every weekend.

:sadpanda: Hm, how bout you give Streetlight Manifesto a listen? They're pretty awesome. And Rebelution too, they're huge around here. I saw them when they were just a small local band playing at some park in front of 20 or so people. :hat

Eh I hope I never grow out of my ska phase, it's the perfect music to chill to. Yeah dude for sure, ska shows are my favorite shows to go to. Chill, laid back, just a good time with friends. They're damn fun to play too :)

Nope. Then again I'm not really 'in' on the ska scene , so I can't really say.

It's funny, I realized after posting this that I have talked to Matt about the band (the last time I saw him was after a fundraiser we threw last year and he was telling us what it was like touring and stuff), but never actually listened to them.. just checked out some of the songs on their website and have to say a lot of it is musically cool and I love the horns, but the vocals really turn me off.

Zeltar, I will check them out. My too favorite horn bands are, Tower of Power, an old 70's funk band from Oakland, Ca. and Chicago.  Old school, I know, but both kill live.
