my favorite dream theater song is another day great melodies , great playing. in my opinion the perfect balance.
Behind every guitar virtuoso, there's a bassist dying to shred.

Wonderful song in every way. I love it.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

As far as songs on Images it is criminally underrated, I find it to be stronger than Pull Me Under, Under a Glass Moon, Learning to Live, Wait For Sleep, and possibly Surrounded, yet every year it is usually first to go in our survivor here.

Absolutely breathtaking song.  It's funny, I would rank it behind Learning to Live, Metropolis, Take the Time, and Surrounded, and yet I still adore the song.  That's just a testament to what a masterpiece Images & Words is.

Not to be a buzzkill, but it's easily my least favorite song off of Images and Words. I do enjoy it though.

I like AD, but couldn't you say Surrounded has that same "balance"?  Plus, I love any song that has the word "rush" in it.
Hope is what remains to be seen. Now we must tend our garden.

Weakest I&W song tied with Take The Time, and we're not talking about an album which owns in terms of consistency.

Same.  Add the word "Dies" to the title and let James sing it as a duet with Ray Alder, and it becomes much more interesting.

Another Day Solo > Under A Glass Moon Solo

Agreed.  I know the "Under a Glass Moon" solo is great, too, and shows a lot of technical wizardry, but the "Another Day" solo is one of my favorites.

Yeah, I've always liked this song a lot.  Very well constructed, great solo, and a unique and stylish ending with the sax.  I always wondered why it never got any radio play with PMU & TTT back in the day.

It did where I live.  KSHE-95 here in St. Louis played the crap out of all three songs.

Hated it at first. REALLY fuckin hated it. Reeked of cheesy, overly effeminate 80s "Monster" ballad to me. Things change over time and I now like it a good bit.

You know, this is the first ever Dream Theater song I've come close to crying. Granted, I never understood the meaning of the song before so when I first listened to it, it had me puzzled.

When I searched the history of this song and realized that it was to Petrucci's sick dad, it got me. Whenever I listen to epic Dream Theater parts: "I will liiiive oooon!", "So I'm moving on.....", among others, it gives me the shivers. Then I get ecstatic for some reason.

Easily one of the greatest vocal albums by James Labrie, though it is tied with Awake. Jay Beckenstein's sax gets me every time and still sends me the shivers. Love the piano playing on this one and overall, an extremely, extremely strong song given to us by Dream Theater.  :tup

It's a great melody and the lyrics are amazing.

Unfortunately, I think this song suffers the worst from I&W production.
It's just very very dated sounding and is a product of its time (late 80s, early 90s). The music video probably doesn't help the situation :(

Now that the technology is there, I bet Jordan could use a sax sound with the seaboard controller and absolutely nail the sax part live. Would love to see this.

Yep, there are some amazingly realistic sax videos using the seaboard. I bet he could pull it off.
