Well, ASHES dIVIDE only have one album, but it's awesome (Keep Telling Myself It's Alright).  I don't know if you looked into A Perfect Circle, but they're along similar lines, except with Maynard from TooL on vocals.  I know you're a big TooL fan, so you probably already checked them out.

Meshuggah - Nothing
                - Chaosphere (crazier and faster album)

Do you like technical/jazzed up metal? Try Focus by Cynic. But I bet you know it because a lot of people know it, so.

As long as you can get through the production. Myself I found songs off it amazing when they were played live, but I found the album itself hardly enjoyable...

The Evpatoria Report - Golveka

Post rock with a big emphasis on the violin. Personally strings in post rock just gives me chills, especially when combined with a speech from somewhere.

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance if you're looking for something darker and heavier as a whole, Night is the New Day if something less depressive and with more much calmer songs. After you've tried the two, the masterpiece which is Viva Emptiness. Then, I guess the earlier albums, I haven't heard them myself yet, but they're definitely less accessible (though all of them are liked, so I guess you can't go wrong).
I don't know if you've tried already, but on second thought, leave TGCD for later and take Viva Emptiness earlier.

So, I got:

Antimatter - Planetary Confinement
ASHES dIVIDE - Keep Telling Myself It's Alright
Band of Horses - Cease To Begin
Bjork - Debut
Buckethead - Decoding The Tomb of the Bansheebot
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Devin Townsend - Terria
The Evpatoria Report - Golevka
Gregor Samsa - 55:12
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Kayo Dot - Choirs Of The Eye
Meshuggah - ObZen
The Pineapple Thief - Tightly Unwound
Riverside - ADHD
Ulver - Perdition City

A lot of them still need to grow on me (particularly the post-rock albums, and they're always worth it), but I've definitely found something I love on all of them, my favorites being Kayo Dot, Ulver, Bjork and Buckethead :tup (as I said, I like all of them, though!)

Keep the suggestions coming!

Take your time with Debut, then move on in chronological order. You know you're ready when you can't go a day without listening to The Anchor Song.

I'm already like that with that song, One Day and Venus As A Boy.

Though I've only had it for two days.

Kaki King - Dreaming of Revenge

Singer-songwriter, this particular album has a lot of very dreamy, ethereal rock on top of awesome acoustic fingerpicking. I love love LOVE this album.

I want two things right now:

1) Things that sound like Ulver's Perdition City (some experimental shit that sounds like it could be on the soundtrack to some black and white noir detective/crime film)
2) I want to start getting into Jazz, so give me some starter-level music.

Concerning Scale the Summit. They only have two albums out and both are relatively short (<40 minutes) so just listen to 'em both.

Let me know if you find any!  :lol I've been looking for "stuff like Perdition City" ever since I heard the album. I love that style, but it's really rare for some reason.  :sadpanda:

You should probably start with some swing bands like Count Basie or Duke Ellington. As for modern bands, get the album Cowboy Bebop by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts if you haven't already.

Venetian Snares - Rossz csillag alatt született

I'm going to be a typicalist and say Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis, it was my introduction to jazz as well. Or you can also go for John Coltrane's Giant Steps. It's all good stuff coz... It's jazz.. :tup

Bump.

I've been listening to a lot of Aphex Twin and Venetian Snares lately, so I'd appreciate some more electronic music recs. Also, punk and ska-punk. I've been meaning to listen to NOFX as well. And maybe a bit of hip-hop, looking for shit that sounds like Atmosphere and CunninLynguists.

I would recommend Chroma Key - Graveyard Mountain Home. It is in my top 5 albums of all time (4th I'd say). Pretty much ambient/electronic with a bit of art rock and lots of samples. Although the first track is a bit annoying, everything after is unbelievable.  :hefdaddy
