So I bumped into JR yesterday...
« on: May 03, 2010, 08:55:47 AM »
...well... I kinda stalked him too.

I was driving down Middle Neck Road (main drag in my hometown of Great Neck) on the way to the drugstore.   While waiting for a light, I see Jordan strolling down the sidewalk, and after a double-take (wtf is HE doing here?    ohyeah...he grew up here), I quickly roll down my passenger-side window and yell out to him, but he doesn't hear me through the traffic noise and the Maiden playing on my stereo.  So when the light turns, I quickly pull into a side-road to park the car, grab a pen (shit...no DT cds in my car), and race back to the spot where I saw him.  I look frantically up and down the street, but he's nowhere to be seen.   :sadpanda:

I continue to scan the street, and luckily I spot that unmistakable gray goatee inside the store a famous deli in town.  As he leaves the shop with his Sunday-night dinner in hand, I saunter up behind him and follow him for a block, waiting for the right moment.  He turns a corner, and I race ahead of him so that I could meet him face-to-face.  As he's about to cross the street toward the parking lot, I flash him a sheepish grin: "Can I get your autograph?" to which JR says "We can do that.  Do you have a pen and paper?"   I pull out my ticketmaster credit card stub for my Maiden/DT tickets and he goes "Cool! Let me use your back."  As he signs, I ask him if he knows Lee (my piano teacher and an old family friend of his).  So we chat a bit about his days growing up in Great Neck before I let him go on his way   ;D    Just wanted to share a cool story bro.

Stalker!  Just kidding.  We all would've done the same thing.  Cool story.

But 'outrage' is so subjective.  Jordan's mouth may have been saying 'no,' but his eyes were saying 'yes.'

Whatever it was, it was double-bagged in a brown paper bag and a white plastic one.  I don't remember if any grease was showing through,  but I will say that the place is well-known for its fried chicken.   :metal

If it makes you guys feel better, unbeknownst to Ludwig, after I met him after the NYC Transatlantic concert a week ago I stalked him for the next hour.

I know EXACTLY the deli and area you are talking about, LV. Nice job!

I met Jordan on the streets of Berkeley prior to the DT/Redemption show in 2007. My wife spotted him. We said hello as we were all headed back to the venue. He mentioned he needed to get ready for the show and both his tech and I pointed at the huge line in front of the venue and said "uh, you better go the back way." lol.

I never did get a picture or autograph, but he was a really nice guy.

Haha, yeah that meeting was way too quick.  3 1/2 hour concerts don't lend themselves to post-show meetups, when everyone needs to catch trains to get home.

Good question.  Probably not soup.  I can't see him eating soup with that beard.  It probably gets in the way when he leans over the bowl.

I wonder if he'll Tweet about this... if not, at least you got a coolstorybro to share now. Try to find him at the show you're going to and, in a rather jokingly manner, ask him if he remembers you, the guy who stalked him from leaving a deli one sunday night at the beginning of May.

Thats awesome! JR definitely seems like a down to earth, friendly guy. Plus, I don't think they get approached for autographs too much (except maybe when they are on tour... Jordan especially since he explores the area of the cities they are in), so they probably don't mind signing one now and then when someone recognizes them. ;) Really, I think the only one who would be uncomfortable with it would be JMX, and even then he would still probably do it regardless of how he felt.

Oh man! I would love to get his trademark 'hello' that he says to random people while cruising city streets.

I remember in Adelaide seeing the whole band unpacking luggage for their hotel...but I stayed clear, i could just imagine them feeling tired and worn out. Plus the Bear and Ninja would have made light work of my face. Although the Wizard would have used his Health XP to heal me.

My only JR story is that I passed him at NEARfest and he told me "nice shirt" nonchalantly.  (I was wearing a LTE shirt at the time).  I guess I was too star struck to actually reply to him :lol

This is more true than most might believe.
