thanks, if any more rare Russian River -ation beers get released I might just have to take you up on that :D

tonight I had a big bottle of Flying Fish's Exit 16, a double IPA brewed with wild rice. The rice dried the beer out to make the hops the main focus, but it was a little too dry for my taste, could have used a bit more malty sweetness. Now I'm working my way through a bomber of Goose Island's Night Stalker. This is the base beer they use to make Bourbon County Stout each year. It's a bit hop forward for a stout, but they manage to pull it off quite well because the citrus and pine hop flavors blend well with the massive dose of malty chocolate I get from each sip. It's also impossibly rich/creamy, like some sort of adult milk shake :hat

I'll be heading over tonight to Cambridge Brewing Company for their 21st anniversary party, with more than 21 of their beers on tap (actually, as I look at the list I may have to go back tomorrow night too :lol )

That sounds wonderful.

Got a bottle of that aprihop stuff last night on your recommendation, Bill. Also got some Victory Hop Wallop because I was in a hoppy mood  :D
Haven't tried either yet either because I went to bed early last night   :(

The store is having a wine and beer tasting this evening and I am so there.

oh, and I forgot to mention, the second half of that awesome stout last night was enjoyed in conjunction with Ben & Jerry's Magic Brownie ice cream... black raspberry ice cream with sweet cream ice cream swirls and fudgy brownie bits. I'm still having orgasm aftershocks :D

nice, I've heard good things about that. I went to CBC and had their Cerise Cassee (*very* sour beer aged on cherries... pretty good but it obliterated my palate and affected my enjoyment of beer #2), 3 Rings Belgian Pale Ale (good, but a bit more tart than I remember, which I blame on the Cerise), and YouEnjoyMyStout (bourbon barrel aged imperial stout... the taste was a bit off for me, as in addition to dark chocolate and dark fruit notes I was getting a bit of black licorice, which I did not care for. The bourbon influence was nicely understated though). I think there's a Terrapin Monk's Revenge and maybe a Racer 5 in my future as I relax tonight

either find a chocolate stout for an all out chocolate fest, or if you can buy a raspberry lambic that would be awesome too

I hate raspberry-flavored stuff  :(

Anyway, I wanted to bring something from my fridge because some of them have been sitting there too long so I brought the Odell Saboteur and it was quite yummy. Tasted nothing like it smelled. Not sure quite how else to describe it right now. I'm still feeling pretty good. Typing words accurately is laborious :lol

We ended up not having cake  >:(

Last night, I had a friend over to watch the B's game and we had a little beer.(Shocking!)

La Fin Monde---Tripple Fermentation
Manchester Brewing--Imperial Blonde
Portsmouth Brewery--Farmhouse Ale.

how did you like La Fin du Monde? I always hear good stuff about that and Unibroue's lineup in general

Hit up CBC again tonight and was supposed to start with their Tripel Threat, but I'm pretty sure I got their 3 Rings Belgian Pale Ale by accident (wasn't going to complain, either way it was a damn good beers). Followed that up with a Resolution (Belgian Strong Dark Ale, pretty tasty and with a tart kick at the end that added something new to the style) and a Reckoning (blonde ale ferment entirely with brettanomyces... despite being 100% wild the sourness/funk was held well in check and go well with the bready maltiness that comes through from the beer), and capped the trip with a Blunderbuss Barleywine (aged in port barrels, this was really good. Caught somewhere between a malty English Barleywine and Hoppy American Barleywine, this beer made the balance work, and the vanilla notes I got from the barrel aging only made it better). Now that I'm home I tihnk I'm going to crack my bottle of Flying Dog's Raging Bitch Belgian-IPA

Very smooth for a high alcohol %.  Very fruity aroma.  A fine beer.

BTW, had a Rouge, Dead Guy Ale tonight!

They are dee-lish! I still have an XL white shirt for that beer I got on a promo night when some cutie was giving out swag if you bought a pitcher of it. Too bad I have room to spare in an L but it still makes a comfy sleeping shirt.

BUMP

home for a week with a six pack each of Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA and Southampton Double White Ale. The Torpedo IPA is pretty tasty, but I'm a bit let down by the Southampton. I had it on tap a while ago and thought at the time it was great (that was well into my Saint Patrick's Day pub crawl though :lol), but the beer I have now seems a bit watery and not flavorful. I also have a big bottle of Victory's Wild Devil (their Hop Devil IPA brewed with wild yeast), which I'm looking forward to cracking one of these nights

To live is to die! viva Metallica \m/

fixed

Just got a sixer of Kashmir IPA. It's got a gentle dryness that belies the usual-yet-everpresent hoppiness of IPAs. I like it quite well as it goes down smoother than an experienced callgirl yet has all the desirable bite that makes this style such a good go-to for those in search of a hearty beer. The color is great too. In a pint glass held up to the light it's got an orangey/light-amber color with enough cloudiness to show it has not been corrupted by over-refining through techniques more akin to beers of the more top40 variety.

Altogether a fine beer but I wish I hadn't had Ranger IPA as recently as last week since that beer still has me hypnotized with its awesomeness.

I am deliberately going to Belgium for my next European trip just because of the fantastic beer. On my second Duvel for the night...everyone already knows it's great so I don't need to say it. I can't imagine what it would be like to visit some of the breweries in that country  :hat

that's absolutely going to be my first vacation after I get a job and start making some money, a guided beer tour of Belgium.

Last night I cracked open a bottle of Stone's 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout... delicious with almost 2 years of age on it. Any alcohol heat has basically faded,  and it was just a total dark chocolate bomb. Also :heart the smoothness you get from a beer with oatmeal in it.

been working on my 750 mL bottle of Wild Devil for almost 2 hours now. This beer is a bit of a letdown because it looks great and the smell is an awesome combination of piney-hop goodness and brett barnyard funk, but the taste loses that great balance and is pretty much a straightforward wild ale. It's an American IPA fermented with brett. so it is pretty hard to hit the sweet spot with this beer, as the hops are fading while the funkiness is only getting more pronounced with time.

Also, today is the start of American Craft Beer Week, so make sure you celebrate appropriately :hat Massachusetts has a disappointingly small number of events going on, especially in the downtown Boston area. Only really exciting event is Armsby Abbey having a boner inducing list of beers on tap/on deck this week, but that's a bit of a hike for me. I have the ammo to celebrate on my own though :metal
