I've tried a few times, but they never really clicked for me (other than a few isolated songs).  Samsara is a fan.  If you don't get much of a response in the thread, PM him.

I'd start with Vivid and for their heavier side, Stain.

I'd start with Vivid. I'm not exactly an expert on them, though. I only have Vivid and Time's Up.

Vivid
Live at CBGBs
Times's Up
Biscuits
Stain
Dread

Those are all awesome.

Collideoscope is OK.

I can't comment on Live In Paris and Chair In The Doorway as I don't have them yet.

I also think Vernon Reid's Mistaken Identity and Masque are pretty cool too.

Hmm. To get a good one-album grasp of what Living Colour is about, I'd go with Time's Up or Vivid.

Vivid was the debut and biggest seller, on the strength of "Cult of Personality." But I think Time's Up has the overall better songs throughout.

But either of those is a good first step.

If you like those, then let me know, I'll steer you further. Whoever said Stain (third record) is heavier, is correct. But Vivid and Time's Up are probably better representations of the band's core sound.

I will just assume that he meant you're obviously a fan of decent music, so it stands to figure you'd like Living Colour.

Hahaha.  It's Charlotte Church.  She's been wreaking havoc via my avatar for a day or two now.  It's been distracting the hell out of everyone.

Oh, just because you and I are both fans of Sevendust and they're very similar bands (from the melodic metal sound to the black guy :P).  In fact, they've said Living Colour are one of their influences.

Exactly correct. I think "Type" from Time's Up is my favorite song of theirs. I love how Corey Glover's ad lib in the fadeout just keeps getting faster and faster.

Yup, Sevendust is highly influenced by Living Colour. Corey has more range than LJ, but they write similar melodies.

Honestly, go pick up Vivid or Time's Up, or both. Just remember that on top of metal/hard rock, you'll get some funk in there. That is a big part of Living Colour's sound, and is more prominent on Time's Up.

If you like them, PM me, and I'll set you on the right path.

Tell me about it.

I would say avoid at all costs Kaleidoscope.  Every other album is very good.

Yeah, that's absolutely what attracts me to Living Colour.  In addition to Cult of Personality I've listened to Nothingness and Type, totally in love with the latter.

Ok, Type is on Time's Up. So get that. Nothingness is cool, but it's mellow vibe is nothing like the remainder of Stain. Stain is actually really heavy.

So go with Time's Up, Vivid, then get Stain. I'll steer you through the live albums and the studio albums that followed after that.

Callideoscope isn't even that bad. 'Flying' is one of my favorite Living Colour songs.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I like it a lot myself. It just isn't on the level of thier work before the split.

Probably shouldn't be a first purchase though.

There are also a myriad of compilations out there. I only have their first (Pride).

There is at least one other compilation that's got a song that never appeared anywhere else.
