8. Dream Theater - Home
One of the few Dream Theater songs I find myself returning to nowadays, Home is just awesome from start to finish. I can't help but sing along with the vocals, the guitar work is infectiously catchy, and the drumming is some of Portnoy's best. The guitar solo is also one of my favorite Petrucci solos, managing not only to be insanely technical but interesting and musically fitting. Oh yeah, and there's the sex scene, which was pretty damn hot when I was 14.
7. Eisley – Marvelous Things
The best song off of an album that's somewhere in my top five. The rhodes piano combined with Stacy Dupree's lead vocals and lyrics give the song a very whimsical vibe, while the rest of band grounds it in solid indie rock. The vocals harmonies are wonderful, the subtle lead guitar work adds quite a bit of depth to the song, and a special nod must be given to the tambourine/hi-hat that runs through most of the song, hitting on a rather strange rhythm that adds so much despite just being a single line. Everything about this song is just perfect, and I still find myself listening to it regularly several years after having first heard it.
6. Bloodbath – Eaten
The greatest death metal song ever. From the first second it kicks you in the face and proceeds to feast on your internal organs, and I love every moment of it. The vocals are the spawn of satan himself, the lyrics are deliciously gruesome, and the riffs are fucking great. I can't help but headbang when listening to this song, and that's never a bad thing. Probably the best part of this song are Peter Tägtgren's vocals, which are some of the best death growls I've ever heard.
