  • THRONES FOR THE THRONE SKULL
Years ago when I first  Devin with Steve Via on The Late show, it threw me off because I didn't like his vocals.  Mabye I should give him another chance.

Here's the song on my list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaCefwkz4HY

WHILE THINGS KEEP GETTING HEAVY!

God that is a great song.  Totally not expecting it to be number 2 but damn I can't complain.  I remember buying Addicted early this year, knowing Dev's reputation for SYL and the nickname of "Hevy Devy," getting my balls crushed by the first two songs, and then this one came on.  I was so confused, but I loved it.

Love seeing that Devin song so high.  I love it to death, too!  I also listen to it almost every day, as well, as it is a mainstay on my workout playlist, and when I listen to Devin at home or in my car, that gets a lot of play.  That song is just all kinds of fun. :hat
This, pretty much. Word for word.
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

  • THRONES FOR THE THRONE SKULL
1. Porcupine Tree - Heart Attack in a Lay By

I don't have much to say about this song, just listening to it through headphones (or surround sound if you have it) with the lyrics at hand would convey more than I could with ten thousand words. It's beautiful, it's sad, and it reaches me on a level no other song can even come near.

Final List:

1. Porcupine Tree - Heartattack in a Layby
2. Devin Townsend  - Bend it Like Bender
3. Steven Wilson - Collecting Space
4. Circle Takes the Square - Same Shade as Concrete
5. Opeth - Godhead's Lament
6. Bloodbath – Eaten
7. Eisley – Marvelous Things
8. Dream Theater - Home
9. Gregor Samsa - Lessening
10. Porcupine Tree - The Start of Something Beautiful
11. Thrice – Daedalus
12. Kayo Dot - The Manifold Curiosity
13. SikTh - Pussyfoot
14. Transatlantic - Stranger in Your Soul
15. The Human Abstract - Vela, Together We Await the Storm
16. The Beach Boys - Wouldn't it Be Nice
17. Pain of Salvation - Idioglossia
18. Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons
19. Dillinger Escape Plan - Sunshine the Werewolf
20. Between the Buried and Me – Selkies: The Endless Obsession
21. Chroma Key - Lunar
22. Hella - Biblical Violence
23. maudlin of the Well – The Ferryman
24. Continuum - Construct 4
25. Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You

Thanks to everyone who followed, it was a lot of fun!

Excellent choice for first place  :)

And wow, you have such a broad taste in music. My top 25 would be dominated by only two or three different bands  :lol

I've only heard 10 of the songs on that list, and only like 6 of those.

But then again, my favourite songs list would probably be regarded as utter shite to most people here.

The fact that even out of my top 25 songs Steven Wilson holds 4 spots says alot about either me or him, I'm not sure which.

I REALLY want to listen to Heartattack in a Layby now, but my good headphones are in repair so I'm actually going to be the ultimate audio snob and save it, and Stranger In Your Soul which I've been waiting to listen to for a week now, until my good ones come back so I can appreciate them.

Whenever I think about Heartattack, I always think "What an incredible song" and then I go rank songs on IA/overall/whatever and it always winds up so far down the list and I always get mad at myself. I should look into it.

Well, IA has so many dang great songs.  By my estimation, 9 of the 12 songs are great (with the other 3 - "Wedding Nails," "The Creater Has a Mastertape" and "Strip the Soul" - all being very good, as well).  So, there is no shame in not being the best song on an album that chock full of great tunes! :coolio

IA in 5.1 is an eargasm and so is listening to Heart Attack in a Lay By.  The music perfectly conveys the lyrics.  It's damn erie.

BTW Sigz, I found that Devin Townsend sound to be just ok.  I'll go on youtube and checkout a few more songs.

You will live. I was afraid you're seriously going to put Trains there. But it's an absolutely amazing song, even if I can find (very few) even more amazing PT songs.

I've watched the live version of Heartattack from the Arriving Somewhere DVD several times, so I decided to download the studio version to see how they stacked up. I don't know if it's because I'm used to the live version, but it sounds so much better to me than the studio one. Same goes for the performance of Lazarus on that DVD as well.

The live version is very good, but a bit different. However, the album version has no competition.
